I used to live in the Springs. Twice. One of the few military places in America requiring Canadians. It's the one place this military brat would move back to. I could throw a rock into the evacuation zone from my house (just across I-25).

Stay safe.

Well, they got what they paid for. Mother Nature sometimes turns into Mommie Dearest.

Yeah, not so much. I live in Indy and we're dealing with a nasty drought. It's supposed to be 104 tomorrow and we've had less than an inch of rain the entire month. My neighbor's mulch caught on fire the other day because she has a glass bird feeder. The sun caught it just right and shiat went up in flames. Good thing my other neighbor was outside when it happened. Also, we have a burn ban but fireworks are legal in Indiana. Sooooo this will be fun.

And it's so considerate of Tippecanoe County to say (at least for now) that the state's fireworks permits supersede the county's ban starting June 29. Never mind that West Lafayette and Lafayette have been banning fireworks on nights other than Homecoming and the Fourth for years.

Somewhere high in the desert near a curtain of a blue
The Rockies skirts are billowing
But down here in the Mile High City
The fans of the mountains are withering
And you can't deny that living is easy
If you never look behind the scenery
It's showtime for dry climes
And The Springs are dreaming of rain

When the hills of Colorado are burning
Pine trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the skis are ill at ease
And Aspen is burning

This is not a test
Of the emergency broadcast system
Where South Park fires and airport towers
Conspire to dance again
And I cannot believe the media Mecca
They're only trying to peddle reality,
Catch it on prime time, story at nine
The whole world is going insane

When the hills of Colorado are burning
Pine trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the skis are ill at ease
And we see that Vail is burning

A placard reads
"the end of days"
Jacaranda boughs are bending in the haze

More a question than a curse
How could hell be any worse? (Well, Arizona.)

The flames are stunning
The cameras running
So take warning

When the hills of Colorado are burning
Pine trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the skis are ill at ease
And Colorado is burning

except that Indy isn't surrounded by trees so if anything is set on fire it won't grow

It's not like Colorado but the area I live in Indy is surrounded by trees. It's not just cement and buildings. I live in a small historic community on the east side and trust me, one house goes up, it's not going to be a good thing. Nothing on the scale of what we're seeing, but losing a home or a neighborhood is still a lot.

This is why I moved from the San Bernardino Mountains to Las Vegas: Mega-fires. The whole world is drying out and you have to stay away from the fuel.

I live in southeast Colorado Springs, so the fire would pretty much have to devour the whole city before getting to me. I work downtown and have a good view of the plumes of smoke rising from the mountainside from my office window, though.

All the smoke in the air is rather awful. Especially when you have asthma :(

Good thing he has three tanks of propane in his car. Those are really hard to replace and would never catch from the GIGANTIC FIRE.
