Can someone provide a direct link to the video? I'm on my phone and get redirected to the mobile site, sans video.

It's better than well-done homeowners.

Have they tried doing that chemtrail thing that increases the chance of rain? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Another account:

I think that's when the wind kicked up into the 50 mph range. I opened the laundry room door, into the open garage, and got hit with a bunch of ash. I closed the garage door and ran through the house closing the windows.

It was suffocatingly hot in there, and then it got dark -- and then there was an orange glow outside all the windows and a lot of gusty wind just blowing the ash around. Very creepy around that point... like being in a hell hole, I thought.

I said to my roommate, "This doesn't feel right -- we shouldn't be here." That's when the police drove by with bullhorns, telling us to evacuate.

CSB time?

My folks and I went to California in the early 80s.... as we drove through LA, there were fires burning on the hills on either side of the interstate (I-15?). We stayed at my aunt's house in some canyon area (I can't remember the name right now - it was 30 years ago and I was 13 or 14). The fires were raging across the from the back of the house, and people were hosing down their houses.

By the time I joined the Marines and encountered several brush fires while field training in Pendleton (one we started firing tracers from M-60s at night, we went out and stomped it out, another engulfed one of our training areas, forcing us to change locations), I figured it was par for the course out west.

Looking back at my first encounter, it was a pretty remarkable sight - much like in this video.

2012-06-27 11:05:19 PM
The video earlier of people clearing horses out of the area was kind of heartbreaking.

I've got at least two friends in the burn area, and a third right on the edge. They're all pretty sure their homes have burned.

This fire sucks.

2012-06-27 11:05:43 PM
This video and another I've seen recently show homes that I would not typically associate with being a high fire hazard. Not like say the Berkeley Hills or Hollywood Hills or any of the hills I've typically seen fires burn through. The homes are far apart, the streets are wide, there is green grass and not a whole lot of trees.

I gather this shows just how fast and quick this fire is. Or?

Anyway, be well, Waldonians of Colorado.

Good thing he has three tanks of propane in his car. Those are really hard to replace and would never catch from the GIGANTIC FIRE.

The poor guy was probably so scared that he couldn't stop his hands from shaking. I know I'd be terrified if I was there.

My hotel is full of evacuees. It's breaks my heart every time the phone rings and I'm asked if we have any rooms available. Being on the north end of the Springs, we are close-ish to the fire. It would have to jump I-25 and burn a half of a mile before it got here but... after last night? Anything can happen.

My mom's house is further into the city, near the Olympic Training Center. My brother's house is a mile from the evac zone.

OH please oh please oh please let the WBC assholes go to Colorado to say this is because of the queers. Please oh please let them be caught up in the fire. Please let God burn then because of the gays.

I've been listening to the fire dispatch feed over the internet.
I am very impressed with them - just amazing.

The woman that gives the presentations to the public (forest service?) not so much.

if you zoom in on CO Springs enough, you can see the fire zone in a red outline. the article is from 9 hours ago, though, and i don't know how dynamic the map really is.

Google the subdivision covenants and read the wildfire mitigation handbook. Those folks wanted to be close to nature. i hope they updated their structural insurance policy instead of buying little Timmy those expensive Nikes.

One of the engineers on my project last December lived in the Springs, he just lost his house. It's pretty terrifying.

Yeah, not so much. I live in Indy and we're dealing with a nasty drought. It's supposed to be 104 tomorrow and we've had less than an inch of rain the entire month. My neighbor's mulch caught on fire the other day because she has a glass bird feeder. The sun caught it just right and shiat went up in flames. Good thing my other neighbor was outside when it happened. Also, we have a burn ban but fireworks are legal in Indiana. Sooooo this will be fun.
