The '90s were awesome but unfortunately they're over.

How does one write an article that long without actually saying anything...?

The post links to a Variety article from 1998 (really? They had the internet back then?)

Yes, and it was a lot more fun before morons like you showed up and ruined it.

A 90s Buffy movie sounds about right before the Whedon ghey attacks you. What a hack.

I like Joss' work but he doesn't need unbridled power in Hollywood. He's already caught a case of what I call "Lucasitis" - which is the horrible things that happen to awesome ideas when their creators have total control over them.

For proof I give you anything in the Buffyverse produced after the shows went off the air.

Much like Lucas, the man needs an editor to tell him "no - that is a stupid idea" every now and then. The reason Avengers turned out so well was that Joss DID NOT have a completely free hand.

The secret is saying "omg the 90's were so long ago." "did the internet exists back then?" "they talk about development deals about shows that didn't get developed, ain't showbuzzness crazy? I wouldn't know, because I am a 10 year old who doesn't know anything about showbuzzness or things that happened before last week."

My youngest son is 17 an my daughter is 15 and I've been trying to get them to watch Buffy since I found it on Netflix, to no avail. when you realize it's an allegory for 'High school is hell' it's a pretty cool show.

I'm just going to use this forum to say it: didn't Joss Wedon say he'd make another Firefly movie if he had 25 million to spend... UMMM JOSS? I think you have 25 million now!! At LEAST! Just sayin....

When a filmmaker gets a shiatload of money, they forget what it's like to be a hungry filmmaker and are less likely to put their own money up for a project. Example, Kevin Smith whining that he didn't have the finance for the end of Red State. The exception being George Lucas. Whatever you think about the prequels, Lucas did what he wanted with his own money.

I'm not really down with the theory that Whedon has Cameron influence now, like so many people want to believe.

Whether you liked Avatar or not, James Cameron built a franchise from nothing. The Avengers would have made bank whether or not Whedon was director (the hype would have been the same no matter who was directing it). So filmmaking cred? I think not.

(Yes, I'm the person who said it would suck, sight unseen. Yes, I saw it, and it reeked of Whedon scripting and it sucked mightily. For reference, Prometheus was a better movie. Not by much, but still better.)

Buffy and Angel gave him most of the sack he'd need to pull in Hollywood to make a movie. Avengers sealed the deal. A lot of fanboys were biatching about him directing and he's shut most of them up. The few still biatching can look at the returns and just keep hating while Joss lives out fantasies of Buffy kicking Captain America's ass in a feminist daydream with action figures he merchandised. Cabin in the Woods is going to have a strong DVD market easily. Joss has Hollywood by the shorthairs. I'm sure he can fark it up if he rocks the boat too much (or increase his quote, that all depends on a lot of things), but him just being on autopilot.........? He'll be directing MI:7 within the decade.

Well, except Fern Gully.

And you're right, Joss doesn't have Cameron cred, because Cameron could self-produce a movie and sell it sight unseen to any distribution house. Joss, well, he's more in Sam Raimi territory where they'll trust him with a big time blockbuster movie, but that big movie isn't going to be his movie until he makes it on his own like the big boys. They'll let him make pet projects, but it's going to be like Raimi's Drag Me to Hell, a regular budget movie with regular budget actors. Joss hasn't reached Guillermo Del Toro territory at this point
