And now Pettitte leaves today's game after taking a ball off his ankle. It's been a terrible year for Yankee pitchers

Yep. Hopefully Pettitte's okay. In the meantime, 6 outs to a Yankees win and KC is once again doing us a solid, currently leading 2-0 over Tampa Bay going into the bottom of the 5th.

Rangers in the same boat, and yet, both teams are somehow keeping it together.

5-3 Yankees into the 9th, 4-2 Royals. C'mon, KC, don't blow it now.

Only the Yankees can tie a team record (if I recall correctly) for homers in a season through 72 games and be "starting" to wake up.

Runners on first and second, 0 out for the Indians. Settle down, Soriano.

Bases loaded, 1 out. Johnny Damon at the plate, Cleveland down 2 in the bottom of the 9th.

I guess between Robertson and Soriano the Yankees are loathe to have a closer not named Mariano who can come in and get three straight outs.

Yep indeed.

The insurance run in the 8th looms large as Soriano walks in a run.

5-4 Yankees, bases loaded, bottom 9th, 2 outs. Asdrubal Cabrera at the plate.

Whewwwwwwwwww, Yankees win after some 9th inning drama. Yeah, pull out your shirt, Soriano, go celebrate, lol. Dick.

2012-06-27 04:10:31 PM
Oh thank god Soriano got the final out. Between CC and Pettitte, the Yanks needed something to feel good about today.

/yeah yeah, I know they're already out of last place, but we're playing the Indians and I have Major League on the brain anyway

Can't play with fire every single inning, Royals. KC and TB tied at 4, runner at third with 1 out in the top of the 8th.

KC wins it 5-4, whew.

Just need an Angels win over the Orioles and today will be lovely.

So... CC is less than DL by about CCCL. Shouldn't the headline read "upgraded"?

/Also, it was Romanes eunt domus.
//"Romans are going home"? Really?

Rays score 6 runs in 3 games against my beloved Royals. Yankees will runaway with the division no matter who's pitching

The bullpen actually has been pretty decent this season it's getting to it that's the problem .

Romani Eunt Domum was one of Brian's erroneous answers. I was hoping given the math error that the Latin error would be humorous. But in the Sports tab, that was probably hoping against hope. :(

Yes, but then you ought to have supplied either the actually correct phrase, which was "Romani ite domum," or a clear abuse of the language, as in "Romanes i domo." Either one should have done nicely. Instead, you just half-assed a snert somewhere between correction and reference, and stuck neither dismount.

Also, "Romani eunt domum" was not an "erroneous answer," nor did it ever appear in the film. "Romanes eunt domus" was the graffito that initiated the entire scene that followed and delighted, and each word was, in turn, corrected to its proper Latin form from left to right (Romanes--> Romani (vocative), eunt--> ite (plural imperative), domus--> domum (accusative of place for certain nouns, commonly, but not quite accurately, shorthanded to "locative")). "Romanes eunt domum" is irrelevantly correct Latin and outwith the paronomasia invoked in this context.

That you have consistently failed at reproducing the bad Latin from the film without mocking the underlying ignorance shows at best your inattention to detail and at worst your own ignorance of either pop-culture or the Latin. Or, I suppose, both. But regardless, "Romani eunt domum" is an indicative statement, literally translated as "The Romans are going home," and is nowhere near as incendiary as the intended "Romani ite domum" eventually supplied by the film or as funny as the trebly wrong "Romanes eunt domus" that Brian initially wrote.

The problem was that your "Latin error" wasn't an error at all, but rather correct Latin therefore utterly divorced from the humour.
