I'm so glad Chris Nolan decided to give up after this one.

Kinda what I think will happen. Bruce Wayne dies but some other character will take over as Batman.

no. batman will not die.

he never died in the books. nolan KILLING bruce would be a slap in the face of every comic about him ever written. bruce gets old. that's all.

Looks to me like Batman, having cleaned up Gotham, will be caught offguard by the emergence of Bane and the explosion of crime in the city. Batman will come out of retirement and will be nearly killed by Bane. JGL's character will take up the cowl and Bruce will officially hand over the reins to the new Batman.

Does it even matter? It will be rebooted after this movie, amirite?

Isn't this Batman going to be in the Justice League movie I saw a trailer for? Or was that a hoax?

Well, eventually, but it might take as long as half a decade.

Funny, because every time I see another movie adaptation of a comic book I expect to be slapped in the face.

/have not seen Avengers yet.

Small correction, I meant being slapped in the face as a fan of said comic book. Not that I am Batman or anything.

2012-06-27 01:39:01 PM
Didn't Bale already say he'd be open to a fourth if Nolan found a decent script?

Linky

/Yeah...maybe it's "classic misdirection," but I really don't see Bruce Wayne dying.

2012-06-27 01:39:54 PM
He won't die, Bane will break his back, JGL will take the mantle in the interim, he will rehab and return

aka Knightfall

To be fair, comic books fans tend to have big slappable faces.

If he dies, it will sell more tickets because 'ZOMG ! Teh goddamned batman dies!'

Its not like they will go 'well, no more batman movies since Nolan killed him..'

Nope. Bruce Wayne is Batman. Moviegoers won't accept anyone else.

They could kill him and reboot, though.

Director Christopher Nolan's take on Batman has always been darker, grittier and more realistic, less comic book and more pulp fictionish

Fixed for the article.

Bane will break his back in the end, but still lose somehow. The Wayne Enterprises Applied Sciences Department will then develop a way to unparalyze Bruce Wayne's dong, so that he can continue to nail Anne Hathaway,. It ends Batman, and Bruce Wayne gets a nice retirement package.

I don't know if extraordinary measures are necessary for that, she can make my dong do a little song and dance number like the chestburster from Spaceballs.

It goes against the whole comic by pushing the premise that Hawkeye was ever relevant.

"Hmmmm, Norse god of thunder, you, the chemical-loaded superhuman who was able to withstand a natural cryogenic chamber, and the man who survived a gamma radiation explosion only to turn into a bohemoth monster may not have enough firepower and strength to bring down this intergalactic monster. So, we're adding on a guy who's really good at archery..."

i have quite a few comics with Hawkeye in them. seems like he was a pretty important character. maybe i am wrong.

Well, he did die that one time. Sort of. But then it turned out that the corpse was just a clone and Darkseid had actually just sent him back in time.

/Kinda doubt that's in the movie, though...

They made it pretty clear in the movie that both he and Black Widow were way out of their league among the superheroes, but they were used effectively.

I don't know if I agree with that. They've set it up at the beginning in Batman Begins:

Bruce Wayne: I'm going to show the people of Gotham that the city doesn't belong to the criminals and the corrupt. People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy. I can't do this as Bruce Wayne. A man is just flesh and blood and can be ignored or destroyed. But as a symbol... as a symbol, I can be incorruptible, everlasting.

I know I'm gonna get blasted for this, but I didn't think Iron Man was THAT great. It was good, but not great. I had more fun with Avengers than Iron Man since there was tons of action, lots of heroes, more snark, and the stinger at the end (the first stinger, not the second).

Hey now, if Clint had fired another really high-explosive second arrow at the Helicarrier (say maybe one with a timer) he could have blown it out the sky completely, the Avengers would never have bonded to form an effective team and then gone on to save the day...

Though to be honest I am still a bit confused as to why Loki's strategy seems to have been mainly concerned with getting his enemies to bond together as an effective team so that they go on to foil his invasion plan and save the day.

/the key to enjoying the Avengers is to enjoy the ass shots and never, ever, give a second thought to the plot.

iron man is fantastic. i love that film. yes, avengers is better. not by much, but it is. if for no other reason than the one scene when thor and hulk are standing side by side... and hulk just punches the shiat out of him for no real reason. that one scene is better than any single scene in Iron Man.

dark knight is in no way a comic book movie. it is a crime drama that involves characters that were originally in comic books.

Loki thought he was the one playing the chess game when he was really Thanos' game piece. Thanos wanted the tesseract and thanks to Loki he knows exactly where it is and who has his mind stone. That's basically Avengers 2's plot right there.

So they asked the director's brother what he thought should happen and just ran with it?
Maybe they could write an article on how I think the next installment of the American Pie trilogy should end.

Hint: They all die.

Since you brought it up, while "Batman: Beyond" wasn't as good as TAS, it had one moment that was the best moment for Batman ever.

The sound-power villain is trying to convince people that Bruce Wayne is insane. Bruce Wayne has ended up in the hospital, and is hearing voices, voices saying things like: "Jump! End it, Bruce. You know you want to, Bruce." Eventually, Terry shows up, Bruce Wayne tells him that there's a directional speaker in the light fixture, and sure enough- there is. When Terry asks him how he knew, the reply was: "Because the voice called me Bruce. In my head, that's not what I call myself."

Terry replies, "Yeah, well that's my name now."

I just love that bit, so much.

yeah, but the comics were always just that, comics. outrageous crazy gadgets and characters and of course Robin. Every Batfilm up until nolan were solidly comic book movies.

that is why nolan's films are so farking superior to what came before.

2012-06-27 03:26:40 PM
From a storytelling perspective, no. No he won't. I can't see Nolan killing Batman (in a non-metaphorical way), dusting off his hands, and leaving the story at that.

2012-06-27 03:26:50 PM
They don't need to kill Bruce Wayne to end the trilogy, just reveal him as Batman. Epilogue: He disappears underground and continues to fight crime ala Kingdom Come.

Jonathan and Christopher Nolan co-wrote the screenplay for Dark Knight Rises, so I think his word has a little more weight than yours.

That being said, I'm betting that Jonathan was just screwing with the interviewer.

Well if you look - loki's staff likely already has the blue stone of mind in it, so it seems like it isnt too far fetched that this is where they are going next.
