Never, if the high-tension-wire brigade ever catch wind of how
it really works.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to ban inductive cooktops yet.

Friends of mine bought their mother a microwave oven for a gift, oh so many
moons ago - she demanded they take it back, saying "well, those microwaves
have to go somewhere!"

How you can be certain that, sooner or later, this'll be a well-established technology:

"We never got tired of the lightning bolts zapping our simulated (targets)," said George Fischer, lead scientist on the project at the U.S. Army's Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center

AHHHH i've been waiting for this tech! I've always wanted a lightning gun. Specifically as a way to get rid of noxious birds(starlings). Just zap 'em right off the telephone line!

All you'd need is a big spinning mirror and you could vaporize a human target from space.

Hey....not to say this hasn't been thought through already, but back in the mid 90's I had an email exchange with a professor of engineering at MIT. I had a thought that if I used a laser to "burn" a hole in the air, it would make it easier for an electron beam to follow behind it. Air distorts most energy weapons, and if I could push the air out of the way by heating if for a fraction of a second, I could make a steerable electron beam. I guess good ideas just get developed. Glad to see my idea works.

Heh. I had a direct damage red deck. Didn't do very well, but it was funny sending lightning bolts and fireballs and meteor showers every turn.

Having been on the receiving end of a static discharge from a CH-47 Chinook, this is going to hurt MUCH worse.

America has committed to being the biggest bad ass on the block for now and in the future.

So, they're testing before attempting to use it in combat? It's more fun to do it the spark way:
