Couldn't he just replace Meg with the rhythm tracks from an 80s era Casio with the batteries dying?

No, no, Meg needs to be there.

...and topless.

Because that's the only way she would be more useful than an 80s era Casio with the batteries dying.

Fark me, I hate EVERYTHING to do with The White Stripes/Jack White/Meg White/The Raconteurs, etc. I cannot STAND this guy's fake white-boy-loves-the-blues-more-than-life-itself jangly no-bass, 4/4 garbage music.

You've got way too much time on your hands.

Listen to his WTF With Marc Maron interview. The dude is WAY beyond The White Stripes at this point. He's got people like Kris Kristofferson dropping by Third Man Records just to "throw somethin' down". He doesn't need to pimp out his little Detroit garage band anymore, he's transcended that genre.

Reunion of what exactly?

His peppermint striped clothes? He can play those tunes and crank up his pedal anytime and there it is.

People just want to see Meg's rack.

So, the best option is to put her off to the side of the stage in a cage like a gogo dancer, and have good musicians play the old White Stripes songs with him.

Jack White has soul. That's what makes the mojo happen. The guy has created his own world. White Stripes is a corner of that world, and Meg White plays the part perfectly for what he wanted in the White Stripes' sound.

Most Jack White haters are dilettante guitar players who can't figure out the soul part.

This guy is a perfect example of the Emperor's New Clothes. Every time I hear him, I think that this HAS to be a joke. I can't believe that he is playing and singing like that on purpose OR that nobody in the recording studio said anything or tried to stop him.

And the music press just FELLATES him.

Utter shiat. Sounds like a retarded five year old playing left handed while out of tune.

Second.

This guy is an even more pretentious John Mayer with a screechy nasal voice. He's the type of douchebag who thinks playing on intentionally broken pawn shop guitars makes him "more artistic". I wouldn't be surprised if I found out in his spare time he Photoshops his face onto old pictures of Son House. And he ruined the movie It Might Get Loud. I've liked his music for awhile, but never bought into (and in fact, kinda hated) the mystique around him that was perpetuated by critics and the media alike.

I don't know if Marc just caught him on a real good day for that podcast, but White came off immensely likeable and normal on that podcast.

Yeah, I don't get the hate for Jack White. Dislike his music all you want, but at least the motherfarker plays a guitar. In a world increasingly saturated with brain dead pop music, auto-tune and this malignant genre they call "dubstep", I am thankful to see that rock musicians still exist.

Though Dead Weather's last album ventured way too far into pop and away from their bluesier stuff.
A lot like Black Keys' latest album, now that I think about it.

That's kinda what I'm getting at. There are a few Raconteurs tunes that are quite good, even if derivative, in spite of my furious dislike of his goofy hat crap.

yeah, i'm not really a fan but that was a very insightful and fun interview.

the white stripes i never got. not in terms of ZOMG MEG SUCKS, she was decent, just.....two instruments you don't have a lot of palette. also why i don't dig the Black Keys. I know they are basically a full band at this point live, but.....it just doesn't really work for me.

that said, i have a live MP3 of Stripes doing Dylan's "Isis" and it is farking amazing. London 2001 i believe.

i don't think he ruined it but -- i've had this argument a thousand times on fark -- i thought he was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of his league. i know they wanted three generations of rock guitar heroes but.......White just seemed outclassed. just my opinion.

The movie by its title alone insinuated that we would be witnessing people rocking out on electric guitar. By the movies end we are treated to the three of them jamming on slide guitar to Weight by The Band. The opening sequence of the movie was Jack White "building" a guitar in a barn in front of cows... I mean, what? And it seemed as if a great part of the movie was Jack White trying to show everyone what a blue collar upbringing he had. Yes Jack, you worked in that old furniture store for a whopping few months supporting that family of uh, zero. You are truly a lost Delta sharecropper's son in Chicago. That movie needed more Edge going into more detail on how his obsession with guitar effects builds his songs. Then maybe juxtapose that with say Tom Morello on how he builds the sound effects himself. Then use Jimmy Page to illustrate how performance counts instead of having him stand around watching Jack White dick around on his broken guitar and nodding. That movie was a miscast missed opportunity.

i broadly agree with -- this is me putting words in your mouth but it sounds like what you are saying -- that the movie was a disappointing. i also wanted so much more from that movie. that said, it was pretty farking cool to see Pagey with his army of Les Pauls*, Edge showing off his various effects.....i just thought that could have been more.

and the scene of jack making that guitar was awesome, in my eyes.

they should remake that, basically. get like, Townshend / Clapton / Weir, Billy Duffy / Robert Smith / Dave Navarro, and then John Mayer / Brad Paisley for hte new school.

*trivia: his "#1" LP was sold to him by James Gang-era Joe Walsh, as LZ opened for James Gang on their first tour and Page wanted a Les Paul. Walsh even flew the guitar from LA to NYC.

Yes, that's what is more bothersome than my seemingly irrational hatred of Jack White's manufactured personality. The movie could've been epic and I think most of us who know that have a million easy answers on how it could've been. As it is it's just a limp tease.

No, because Meg's not a time-keeper. It's hard to explain, but having seen them in concert, Jack sets the tempo and Meg follows him, speeding up and slowing down as he wants.

Edge showing off his guitar effects was awesome. The part where he was demonstrating the intro with all of the reverb and effects and the comparison to what he's actually playing was worth the whole segment. He knew how ridiculous it was that he got this epic sound out of just strumming a couple of chords.

Jack White is at his best when he keeps it simple and raw, and having a drummer as technically unskilled as Meg prevented him from trying to get all fancy. His recent solo album was okay, but it was worse than any album he did as the White Stripes.

2012-06-27 12:51:37 PM
Yeah, Jack's solo record isn't that far off from a Raconeurs record really. As they years plow on I think the White Stripes records are holding up really well... with a lot of the more recent ones aging particularly well. That being said, I really like the Raconteurs but there is some very skippable material in those. Same with the Dead Weather, a few excellent tracks... and a bunch of skippers. Their cover of New Pony is one of the greatest Dylan covers ever done though.

2012-06-27 12:52:42 PM
Jack White's new solo album is pretty goddamn good.

Jack White is brilliant -- I'm not going to spend my time trying to convince the doubters & haters, but there's no denying his talent and the passion he has for what he does. You better get used to him, I can see Jack White being one of those guys that is going to be relevant 10, 20, even 30 years from now, which is refreshing in an age where so many musicians and artists are just "flavors-of-the-month" until the next big thing comes out.

the "Elevation" riff -- WHAAAAA whaaaa WHAAAA whaaaa WHAAAAAA whaaaaa -- is just a chord being strummed. the pitch shift is courtesy of a Logitech pedal i believe
