(The Daily Beast)   The Olympics provide the U.S. the chance to show the world its finest exemplars of American vigor and athleticism, and what could better express this spirt than the 1500-seat McDonald's built just outside Olympic Stadium?   (thedailybeast.com ) divider line

The U.S.?

Like an idiot I flew to London when apparently subby knows a place in America I can catch the District Line to Upton Park.

Been a while since I've seen such a trolltastic headline, subby.

Everything in moderation. McDonald's is tasty

You can get beer at British McD's, right?

Lots of fat people attend the Olympics.

Tons of calories to burn in a Big Mac, shake and large fry.

Compared to British food?

Even that's debatable.

I'd rather have a cheeseburger than farking kidney pie.

Yes, but they call it Le Beer.

You can't catch the District Line to Upton Park, we're playing the Blenheim Memorial Modification of 1804. You have to go through West Ham.

It could have been worse, they could have sent them a Taco Bell. American explosive diarrhea and English projectile vomiting combined would have really been a nightmare for the medical support teams around the Olympic village.

So I'm trying to figure out where the idiocy is intended to be in the headline. Is Subby intending to claim that the Olympics are in the US? Or is it that because McDonalds is a US-based company, everything it does reflects likewise on the US?

Somehow I don't think that a McSol Roth Happy MealTM, sold to you after some old geezer sees a nature film while laying on a slab in the back of the restaurant, can be remotely considered to be tasty.

Remember to "Make Room! Make Room!" for the rest of the stuff that you consume at McDonalds.

I don't eat alot of fast food but I can't deny it does taste good, but Macdonalds is the worst of the worst, it is not "food" it is "Macdonalds food",not the same thing, though I do like the salties, er, i mean the fries.

2012-06-27 11:13:12 AM
How is this sad? IIRC, McDonald's has been involved with the Olympics for quite some time.

What's amazing is the troll is not accurate, every McDonald's overseas we skipped, except for Amsterdam and they were always full of European and Asians eating so there is just as big a market for fatty foods.

You say that but the fries I had in France near Père Lachaise had just as much salt and similar portions in the steak we ate. But I will say everything was prepared great and our lunch was better than most dinners at fancy restaurants over here.

Hey, they sell salads....not many, but some.

I was in Cancun in February this year and at one point we stopped in a McDonald's. It was packed but we were the only Americans there. Lots of tourists from Europe, Asia, whatnot, plus locals.

/anecdote =/= data, I know, I know.

From what I remember Mcdonalds has always been a big sponser of the Olympics and they usually get a shop close to where the games are being held

Would Subby prefer a 1500 seat quick service restaurant featuring the fine cuisine of England?

I'll take it as fact that the 15,000 McDonald's franchises outside of the US couldn't be possibly be patronized exclusively by American tourists

One of the weirder things that happened to me on a business trip to the UK was when I was at our sales office in the Manchester/Sale area. The local team took me to lunch and asked what I wanted, being the gracious hosts that they were. I said, whatever you guys usually go to.

Ended up at TGIFs across the street. I just looked and there are 4 TGIFs in the greater Manchester area.

Winter olympics > Summer olympics

Paralympics > Summer olympics

But I'll still watch!

The Hooters I went to in Mexico was identical to the Hooters in the US, down to the lily-white skinned, bleached blonde Hooters girl except for the language thing.

Most importantly, the UK branch of McDonald's is run by a woman named Jill McDonald.

If I had been the runner-up for that position, I'd be pissed.

Really? Which one? I went to the one in Puerto Vallarta back in '99, and the waitresses were a disappointment.

I don't understand what something being built in U.K. has to do with the U.S.

I'm on a body building cut and I eat McD's quite often. Its easy being they put all their nutritional information out there. McDonald's is NOT the problem, most "good" restaurant food its much higher in calories. (and thats still not the problem, the problem is people are fat idiots).

Mexico, especially Cancun, is its own beast. I've eaten at the Margaritaville in that airport.
