How do you figure?

What part of "Driving a multi-ton weapon after having chemically prevented yourself from being able to do so safely" doesn't sound like a crime, to you?

There is not a state in the union that allows you to fight DUI charges based on lack of intent, lack of intoxication, or lack of potential for harm. The multi-ton weapon is a car that doesn't run, parked on your property. The chemical prevention is blowing .02% while in that inoperable car (i.e. sober) or having an unforseeable reaction between a glass of wine and some medication. Both inoperable vehicles and unforseeable interactions have been upheld by courts as counting exactly the same as intentionally driving drunk.

Less retribution eh? DUI is just another revenue generating ticket in our state. They only start getting pissy about it when people end up getting killed.

You.. can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes! You can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes! You say.. "Steve.. how can I be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes?" First.. get a million dollars. Now.. you say, "Steve.. what do I say to the tax man when he comes to my door and says, 'You.. have never paid taxes'?" Two simple words. Two simple words in the English language: "I forgot!" How many times do we let ourselves get into terrible situations because we don't say "I forgot"? Let's say you're on trial for armed robbery. You say to the judge, "I forgot armed robbery was illegal." Let's suppose he says back to you, "You have committed a foul crime. you have stolen hundreds and thousands of dollars from people at random, and you say, 'I forgot'?" Two simple words: Excuuuuuse me!!"

Kidding me? Not only is she a horse's ass for driving DUI, but she looks quite a bit like a horse's ass.

I'm more concerned that the judge wasn't able to look at that face and immediately recognize a career criminal. There's no hope for this girl - she has "those" eyes.

The problem with kids these days is they don't learn how to drive drunk. It's just like trying to teach abstinence in sex ed. Obviously this isn't going happen.

Drunk Driving "crash" course

1. Drive the speed limit or just under
2. Both hands on the wheel
3. Find a car in the slow lane, drive a safe distance behind, and use it as a guide to drive straight
4. Don't mess with the radio, phone, or talk to a passenger
5. Only reach for the flask while stopped at a light, and check that the car next to you is not a cop BEFORE you drink.

Stay safe kids and drink and drive responsibly.

ROOKIE:

On Feb. 23, police found her driving with an open bottle of Sailor Jerry spiced rum, 12 Xanax pills, marijuana and a bong

PRO:

. We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

FTFA: On Feb. 23, police found her driving with an open bottle of Sailor Jerry spiced rum, 12 Xanax pills, marijuana and a bong. That led to her first misdemeanor DUI charge, plus a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance.

DUI is a misdemeanor, and possession is a felony? I personally think that someone operating a dangerous device that can KILL other people while not having full cognitive capacity is far worse than someone possessing some substances that, as long as not used before/during driving or other activities where impaired cognitive function can kill others, aren't likely to cause other people harm.

FTA: [after the third citation] Then the next day, McCarthy rear-ended a stopped car.

Good thing she didn't kill or seriously injury the people she rear-ended. She obviously has a substance abuse issue. And she obviously should know that she shouldn't be driving when abusing those substances (she's had 3 citations). So this moran deserved to get the book thrown at her and also spend time at rehab.

/judge was way too easy on her

Part of the problem here is that THC stays in your body for a good while. A daily smoker will probably show up positive on a standard piss test for close to a month. She could (COULD) have gone cold turkey on June 1 and still showed up positive on the 18th.

On the flip side, she now comes out of this experience thinking that the consequences aren't real. I would put money on the fact she will do this again, and next time she very well might kill somebody.

I find that lightly gripping the wheel with one hand with my arm resting on my lap helps me drive straighter. The car "wants" to drive straight. Don't fight it.

Mambo Bananapatch:

Well, it probably doesn't work so well for fat middle-aged guys.

Nothing works for us fat middle-aged guys. And everybody assumes we're creepy perverts just for standing there quietly drooling at all the cute "co-eds" in the supermarket near campus. It's even worse when it's a freshman guy who caught your attention. I don't know how anybody with a functioning genital-hormonal system can stand to work around such people, unless maybe they're into senior citizens.

You know how sometimes chicks who don't wear padded bras will open the ice cream freezer door and then take five minutes to decide which they want? "Cleanup in aisle 10!"

And no there's nothing wrong with being quietly peacefully turned on by a healthy young adult who's wearing next to nothing in public. If you disagree then make everybody under 50 of either sex wear burkas when they leave home.

Anyway. I'm sorry, what was this thread about again? John Travolta's shoe size, wasn't it?

Did she rear end the other vehicle at high speed, or was it a bump? (Hint: that's not in the article.) The judge, likely with more experience and definitely with more information than us, decided she would be best served with rehab instead of prison. It was the right decision; she appears to be no hardened criminal, but instead a teenager with an addiction.

But that appears to be beside the point, right, Herr Dredd? I'm sure that litterers would face the death penalty in your state.
