Rome is burning. Who wants s'mores?

I was going to put up a google map of the fire with the witty title of "Where's Waldo"... but it was pretty obvious

Nice! I was going to make a US airforce academy joke but Tebow's better.

Is there a political party or economic philosophy we can blame this on, or is it just an old-fashioned unfortunate event that must be coped with?

Prayers & supportive thoughts go out to those who've lost everything.

They just evacuated the neighborhood where I grew up. :(

Stay safe Colorado farkers.

I'm supposed to close on a house by garden of the gods tomorrow. This is surreal to say the least.

Not getting a kick...

I was also wondering how many people were stopping to Tebow as they run for their lives.

Grab your loved ones and your pets and GTFO people. Everything else can be replaced.
DNRTFA but do they still suspect an arsonist?

I've always dreamed of living on Colorado. Beautiful landscapes and reasonable gun laws. Not to mention Amendment 64. Seems like paradise.

Now, not so much.

I can't joke about this.

Anybody with a modicum of sense at this point will have their stuff packed up and ready to stay with friends/family further away, or drive until you find a motel with space.

watching the press conference, a lot of herp-a-derp about why CSFD doesn't have all the resources in the nation right here, right now and why large military planes can't buzz the canyons and why firefighters can't stand up against firestorms. Not the only fire in the state or the nation, people. Houses are still being lost in the High Park fire up by Fort Collins. The C130's are not barnstormers. The firefighters are not superheros. We are going to be lucky if nobody dies from the fire before this is over.

Dammit. My beautiful state is on fire.

Any know where I can find a live map of the fire? Maybe I've been spoiled by living in the nation's top wildfire states in the past (CA and AZ) but I'm surprised I'm having trouble finding one.

I would have thought prayers might have been more productive before the fire consumed the entire area.

Had a grass fire spark over the hills about 15-20 miles from my home. Fires are scary in these parts. The winds are atrocious and it can move very quickly.

We almost moved to Colorado Springs, but I realized you can't live at The Broadmoor.

Denver TV stations this past week: all fire all the time.

/the smoke isn't doing anyone any good either

I had to evacuate my cabin in Estes Park on Saturday from the fire here. It was with in a mile of my place, and wind was going to bring it right to me.
It's because of the standby crew in Ft. Collins, and the quick actions of Rocky Mountain National Park putting in the order for flight assist, that the fire was contained quickly.

I'm watching the local news right now, where they're salivating over the local fires--1200 acres!! 3500 acres!! Four houses burned down!! I don't even know how many there are close by--seven or eight. But they're all small. Time to clear out those beetle trees.

It's a hot time in the mountain west tonight.

2012-06-27 12:09:58 AM
Oh man, my cousin lives near that. I hope the fire misses her completely, it would be a shame for her to lose her house.

I honestly thought this fire would be a little scary, but under control by today. Obviously it had other plans.

It was lightning, and that's official. Here in Estes Park, about 20 miles from where that fire started, we had an incredible lighting storm roll thru Friday night. So on Saturday morning when I saw the smoke plume, I was not surprised.

Okay, I had heard rumors through facebook that Waldo Canyon and some of the southern fires were from an arsonist.

I was in CO Springs on Saturday. I was actually told by someone there that it was arson too, as there had been multiple fires cropping up all over that area.
