Sleepful in Seattle?
When Harry Buried Sally?

I found out recently that she was married to Nicholas Pileggi, and "My Blue Heaven" was inspired by Henry Hill, who would call Pileggi all the time and sometimes talked to Nora on the phone, telling her all these mob stories.

Holy crap. I had no idea one person was responsible for all of those cringeworthy must-sees for dates long ago.

She should have written a better ending.

I still love When Harry Met Sally. No use for the rest, though.

Didn't see a single one of those.

RIP, anyway.

You've Got Mail remains one of my favorite movies. (Though I really ought to get it on DVD one of these years. There is nothing with which to play the old VHS tape now.) 'Tis a guilty pleasure.

RIP, Ms. Ephron

I remember her brilliant writing for Esquire magazine, back in the day. Kept my subscription going just for that, rather than just buying the annual 'Dubious Achievement Awards" issue from the newsstand. Classy lady.

True story. Dave Thomas brought a friend into SCTV's third season for shiats and giggles . No training as an actor, just a radio disc jockey friend of Dave Thomas. That actor's name? Kenneth Branagh.

Actually it was Rick Moranis. He joined SCTV even though he wasn't a member of Second City.

Not to damn with faint praise, but 'Mixed Nuts' wasn't that bad.

Very weird. I was watching "Desk Set" yesterday which was written by Phoebe and Henry Ephron. The question came up to whether they were her parents and it turned out they were. I really had no clue who she was until then and didn't realize she was behind movies like "When Harry Met Sally". Then today she dies. Kinda weird.

For a second I confused her with Nora Roberts and was hopeful that we could stop getting those books.

just sayin'

I've been reading books for years before and since, and even if movies were made on her behest, no one said she was a nice person.

So...I'm sorry, Nora. You aren't remembered well even before your death. Let that be a lesson to the people who associated with you.

She made romantic comedies I could actually enjoy, because the writing was great. Say what you will about the genre, but the scripts for When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle are both Hollywood classics. RIP.

Fun fact: the mystery flavor is just a mixture of all the left over droppings from the real flavors.

It really is a great movie. My wife and I quote it with some frequency - especially when in the grocery. And thinking of purchasing arugula.
