And yet it got higher ratings at RottenTomatoes than did Prometheus. oy.

2012-06-26 07:09:09 PM
I think that's what Seth McFarlane was going for.

aiiee: And yet it got higher ratings at RottenTomatoes than did Prometheus. oy.

Two hours of random strangers masturbating and farting would have been less letdown than Prometheus. At least the trailers wouldn't have led you to expect a good movie.

Where do I sign up?

In before "so just like everything else Seth MacFarlane does"

2012-06-26 08:27:28 PM
It looks like a Family Guy movie, just different actors in different parts.

/hates Seth McFarlane

Don't knock it until you try it, subby.

i got halfway through the review before i had to quit. what a messy masturbating fart of contradictions and pedantry.

2012-06-26 09:09:19 PM
So like anything else Seth McFarlane does?

2012-06-26 09:15:15 PM
I enjoy Seth's humor but I don't like his face. This movie looks good to me.

2012-06-26 09:16:12 PM
So, that's 2 thumbs up?

2012-06-26 09:20:22 PM
I'm sorry but I saw that trailer and I was cracking up the whole time. And I'm the type of girl who enjoys Wes Anderson at his most Wes Andersoniest.

Strange, I think he's handsome but mentally retarded. You know, in an Irish mongoloid kind of handsome way.

You speak all manner of truth. And no, I wasn't expecting an "Alien" prequel, but it looked so damned promising. Fassbender rocked it though, so I guess it could have been worse.

If you're looking forward to a fart movie and didn't like Prometheus, I have to question your taste.

2012-06-26 09:30:44 PM
You Prometheus dolts have a whole 400-comment kiddie pool full of shiat to flop around in. Take it there.

As for Ted: I'm perfectly fine with watching the red band trailer over and over. "Fark You, Thunder" and Marky Mark's impressive rattling-off of redneck girl names are probably the only good laughs in this whole thing.

2012-06-26 09:32:58 PM
A Seth McFarlane movie is made up of crude offensive humor that is a bit heavily focused on bodily functions?

Wow, nothing else he has ever done has prepared me to expect something like that from a gentleman as refined and classy as him.

I am truly shocked.

This. His face makes me want to punch it but I love American Dad and The Cleveland Show. Family Guy has worn out its welcome for me.

I found that review shallow and pedantic.

2012-06-26 09:34:40 PM
If that headline quote is any indication, not only do we have Marky Mark, but finally, we also have the Funky Bunch.

...pow?

Good thing we have film critics, I was thinking McFarlane was looking to sweep the oscars with this masterpiece.

2012-06-26 09:38:56 PM
Saw this last week (for free). Two-thirds of a very funny movie, followed by 30 minutes of sentimental garbage. Definitely worth a matinee ticket.

2012-06-26 09:39:09 PM
It had to happen. Everybody's suffering from McFarlane Fatigue and Wahlberg Weariness.

Also, this movie really does look like it sucks, so...

I hate I_Hate_Iowa: Marky Mark's impressive rattling-off of redneck girl names are probably the only good laughs in this whole thing.

my buddy and i (from redneck centric areas) thought that was the funniest thing we'd seen. our GF's (from upscale suburban areas) didn't get it at all

I would have agreed a couple weeks ago, but Hulu has destroyed any humor in most of those scenes. I certainly hold out hope that what isn't shown is even better.

2012-06-26 09:41:40 PM
But does it insist upon itself?

Bastard.

Took that long to put the bear through a paper shredder?

Should have fed it the script.

Tends to be a problem with comedies. Very few can be consistently funny for a full 90 minutes.

Ted still looks like a fun way to kill 2 hours on a Friday or Saturday afternoon.

2012-06-26 09:53:28 PM
So is that a good or bad review because the headline sounds kind of like "Why not Zoidberg?"

Saw the previews a couple weeks ago while at The Avengers.

No thanks. Not at all.

My two cents:

1. My grandson liked it a whole lot, said it was really funny.

2. He's 12, and laughs every single time the dog farts.

2012-06-26 10:05:10 PM
I like Seth McFarlane. I like Family Guy and....American Dad tries hard and well anyway, could it have killed him to make the teddy bear not sound exactly like Peter Griffin? No? Ok.

i think the previews with the Bear and Mark Wahlberg a/k/a Marky Mark of Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch are fun to watch. Nice to see MW in some light-hearted fare.

Hate to break it to you, but he'll find farts funny when he's 22, 32, 42, 52, etc., etc., etc.

Why? Because farts are funny.

...I mean some inflection to differentiate him from Peter Griffin....not really a British accent because that would be too "Stewie" and you don't want to draw the obvious comparisons to "Wilfred" but you know, something. Or not, the Peter Griffin voice totally works.

Meh. It's basically a smarter Peter living with a teddy bear that's Brian, so....

NotaryDPO: Definitely worth a matinee ticket.

Read that as "manatee" ticket.

Should've been directed by Todd McFarlane.

I have a friend that, I kid you not, will fart in his sleep. A dead sleep mind you and laugh at his own fart while he is still asleep. He is in his 30s. Farts are always funny no matter how old or conscious you are.

He doesn't have that much range. Peter is his New England accent, Stewie is his British accent, and Brian is his normal speaking voice. I get what you're asking for, but you have to remember, Seth ain't exactly Mel Blanc.

It's as if a critic let his personal opinions and sense of humor rather than his depth of understanding of the medium take control of his review.

//bets Armond White will loathe it.
///will go see in that case
