Fark Party
Host: bigpete53
Description: Shuck me, suck me, eat me raw NOLA Fark party at Cooter Brown's at 7:00 pm on 7/14/2012. Oyster bar, great food, and 400+ types of beer. Join the fun at your own risk, and bring $1.25 for the streetcar
Date/Time: July 14, 2012 - 07:00 PM (local time)
Party Info: megalynn44 is traveling into town for this one, and we welcome all who are willing to travel to our fair city to brave the July heat for some great food and wonderful booze.

If we can convince the assembled masses, we might hop the streetcar or get a cab down to Cat's Meow for some Saturday night web cam karaoke. Pitchers will be purchased at Cooter's to encourage this behavior.

No one does it like NOLA!

Location: Cooter Brown's Tavern
509 S Carollton Ave

Satanic_Hamster: And if Meow Says the Dog ever shows up....

Meow Says the Dog is a NOLA Farker? Jesus, it all makes sense now.

dickfreckle: Seriously, we have the worst Wal-Mart in the history of America

I see you haven't visited the Walmart in Chalmette.

dickfreckle: Before the storm I enjoyed shopping at Roberts on Elysian Fields. There's a lot of stupid lawsuits involved with that store, and it needs to be re-opened in whatever capacity, immediately.

Give it 10-20 years. We're dealing with New Orleans time here.

Karma Chameleon: Oysters in July? You're doing it wrong!

We do a lot of "wrong" down here. And proud of it.

coco ebert: Anyone go to Uncle Lionel's funeral or any of the second-lines?

Ugh. They farked it up. Had to cut it short. I was on Elysean Fields last night waiting for it, but they cut that part out.

His funeral is actually next Friday, and there will be another second line. No word on the route.

Sweet Lorraine's, where the second line ended up last night had like 8,000 people there. Had to shut down all of St. Claude in that area.

RIP Lionel. You were a beautiful soul.

Oh, wow. Yeah, I knew there were a bunch of second-lines springing up all over town. RIP indeed. What a quintessentially NOLA character. Y'all should raise a glass for him. :)

Nabb1: I emailed bigpete53 about this, but I probably won't make it. My father-in-law ended his fight against cancer on Tuesday, and the funeral was today. I would love to be there, but this is obviously a tough time for my family. My wife is six months pregnant, so this has been especially hard on her. I would love to make it given that I really want to meet so many of you and Cooter's is one of my favorite places on the whole planet, but my wife has lost her father and my children have lost their granddad before they really got old enough to truly know him. If you could find it in yourselves to raise a pint to him, I'd be grateful. I don't want to rai. On the parade, so let's celebrate Drew Brees being with us for another five years. WHO DAT?

Hey Nabb... we've talked Saints and other stuff here. So sorry to here that. My father in law also has cancer (stage 4 lung cancer, terminal, though he hasn't gone downhill yet. Still running his normal life, but we all know what's coming).

Not sure if I'm going to make the Fark party, but I'll still raise a pint to him. I know how it goes.

They did Frenchmen, but we missed that actual part of the official second line... but there was halloween-sized crowd out at 7pm or so. And if you're from NOLA you know what I mean by "Frenchmen" and "halloween-sized crowd".

I get more and more homesick every time I read this thread. Wish I could make it.
I second the idea that y'all should be out RIGHT NOW for the Running of the Bulls.

RIP Papa Lionel, and also to your FIL, Nabb1.

And yeah...Andygator...that's my fave....

Thank you bigpete53.

Thanks to BigPete and his wife for showing my friends and I a good time. Thanks to everybody for making us feel welcome! How was the Cat's Meow? Sorry we missed it.

Yes thanks bigpete53. The crowd was a bit light but convivial. I guess the bulls took out a lot of folks. Sorry I had to leave so soon. As it turned out I could have stayed longer. My wife and her shopping buds closed down the Northshore mall and were actually out later than me. I put off the home-grilled burgers until another day.

Cooter Brown's was just slightly disappointing. Kinda small and dingy. Yes, they had NOLA brews on draft, but only two: Blonde (obviously) and the Hopitoulas. Or should I say HOPitoulas. Holy sweet jeebus. It tasted like boiled rhubarb and sauerkraut. I know some folks go for the hoppy taste but it ain't me, babe. They had no respectable stout or even dark on draft, sadly. The oysters were OK, but I wasn't expecting much for July. None of this should detract from the great FARK company which showed up.

bigpete53: Note:

If you are in SE Louisiana or on the Gulf Coast within a couple of hours of NOLA and want to be listed in my profile and get invitations to events I hold at my house or at parks outside of Fark, please quote me in this thread or write my name in the post so I notice it, ask to be added, and I will put you in there.

Maybe much too late to post this, but I missed the event. I read about it much too late. Please add me to your list. I live in Gulfport, and If I coulda, I woulda. If I can, I will.

I'll add the folks who asked in the thread to my list.

2012-07-20 02:35:22 PM
Add me too. Can't remember if I asked explicitly.
