Fark Party
Host: bigpete53
Description: Shuck me, suck me, eat me raw NOLA Fark party at Cooter Brown's at 7:00 pm on 7/14/2012. Oyster bar, great food, and 400+ types of beer. Join the fun at your own risk, and bring $1.25 for the streetcar
Date/Time: July 14, 2012 - 07:00 PM (local time)
Party Info: megalynn44 is traveling into town for this one, and we welcome all who are willing to travel to our fair city to brave the July heat for some great food and wonderful booze.

If we can convince the assembled masses, we might hop the streetcar or get a cab down to Cat's Meow for some Saturday night web cam karaoke. Pitchers will be purchased at Cooter's to encourage this behavior.

No one does it like NOLA!

Location: Cooter Brown's Tavern
509 S Carollton Ave
New Orleans, LA 70118

I'd like to add that the New Orleans farkers are the nicest people on this site.

When is there going to be one in St. Louis, MO?

Myk Ox: When is there going to be one in St. Louis, MO?

It'll probably be a cold day in hell before they party in missouri

bigpete53: Posting here to ping the following:

Thanks, but I wish one of these NOLA Fark parties would be thrown on the other end of town... Marigny or Bywater, where I live.

I'm one of those "never cross Canal" New Orlenians ;)

I may show up, no idea what I'm doing that day/night... have a lot of crap going on at work lately.

Oh bigpete53, don't forget to invite lootie! I mean, who'll bring the Heineken?

MBooda: bigpete53: MBooda: But I'm known to drive into town now and then.

Please do. I'll contribute to your revelry in the form of a beer.

Excellent. Does CB serve anything from this place?
[farm4.static.flickr.com image 375x500]

I ask simply because it's damn good brew and the people who work there are the coolest beings in the galaxy.

Never been to Cooter Browns, but if they have that sort of beer selection, I'd assume they absolutely do. NOLA Brewing Company's beers aren't hard to find down here... they've done a great job getting them into most bars.

And, yeah, its damn good stuff.

MBooda: AnotherBluesStringer: sidgoop: Last time I was down by Cooter's the streetcar tracks were being replaced. If you were heading up Carrolton, you just had to cross the street, but if you were going back downtown, you had to walk a few blocks.

Yeah, they're done with Carrollton, not sure about St. Charles. I work on Maple St. The whole thing has been one real f*cking headache.

I was in town Sunday, trying to get to Lee Circle and then to Audubon Park. Farkin incredible. First, I-10 was down to one lane at Irish Bayou. Then Elk Place/Loyola Ave. is completely torn up and closed. Don't even THINK about trying to get near City Hall or the Superdome that way. Uptown wasn't so bad as long as you avoid falling into the Grand Canyon-sized potholes. Yeah, I saw some cones being set up along St. Charles.

The entire city is farked up lately. They've been putting a ton of money into fixing all sorts of stuff underground. I actually saw them fixing the street in my neighborhood (Bywater). I almost wanted to take a photo because I knew no one would believe me!

I'll be there if Domino Sugar doesn't make us work....

Yes. Every variety.

400+ beers includes all the locals.

basemetal: I'd like to add that the New Orleans farkers are the nicest people on this site.

Agreed. (NOLA farker myself, obviously.) I think its all the New Orleans hate (most of which came from such laughable irrationality like "the whole city is below sea level") thrown upon us every hurricane season.

Just had to give big ups for the W.A.S.P. reference.

We need another California fark party, I haven't been to one in years.

You guys have to go to the Cat's Meow after so we can watch the carnage on the webcam.

gilgigamesh: tenpoundsofcheese: See ya all there!

Are you a NOLA farker, tenpounds?

Let me know so I can duly Farky you.

Judging from posting history, I'd say he's from Kenner, bra. No one in New Orleans is that uptight.

Anyway, I can't venture too far from home tonight (got an electrician coming over and a column to write). But I'll still be Farking intermittently (while drinking). Let me know how it goes!

downstairs: I'm one of those "never cross Canal" New Orlenians ;)

Yeah, I was one of those for almost a decade. Lived and worked in the lower Quarter. It felt like I needed a passport to cross Canal. I currently live in lower garden, which is funky and convenient.

downstairs: NOLA Brewing Company's beers aren't hard to find down here... they've done a great job getting them into most bars.

I see the Hopitoulas and Blonde everywhere. I'm a fan of both. They also have cans now, which makes my mobile drinking much more enjoyable.

There's also a lot of hate because so many people visit, don't venture from the same 5 stinky blocks of Bourbon St., and extrapolate that experience to the entire city. Sometimes I actually feel angry about this. It's not fair that such a magnificently quirky and gorgeous town has such an unworthy ambassador (Bourbon).

And yeah, we are friendly. Even if you're not from here, you gravitate here for the laid-back vibe. Large and impossibly cheerful old black ladies call me "baby" on my way to work. Lunchtime drinking is not only not frowned upon, but encouraged. And yeah, you really can "rely on the kindness of strangers." It's just how we do things down here. Not a lot of room for jerks in this town.

I always found it strange when I first moved here. When I went to a bar and the bartender said he hadn't crossed Canal in years.

I have nothing against most of uptown (outside of the college-kid heavy areas)... but somehow in 6 years I find myself going no farther than Marigny from my Bywater house. Unless I gotta talk to my lawyer or whatever.

I guess in most neighborhoods... everyone finds they have everything they need*

*caveat... the Bywater *still* doesn't have a freaking grocery store since Katrina. Grrrrrr....

At least I live very near the bridge to Chalmette.

Pretty much 100% agree with you. However, there are certain tourists that I'm rather happy stay confined to the quarter. Not all of them, of course.

If you are in SE Louisiana or on the Gulf Coast within a couple of hours of NOLA and want to be listed in my profile and get invitations to events I hold at my house or at parks outside of Fark, please quote me in this thread or write my name in the post so I notice it, ask to be added, and I will put you in there.

I'm in NOLA. I will be out of town for this party but put me on the list for future events. :) Cheers!

I've been in two parts of New Orleans, Bourbon street during the day and evening in December, and the Elmwood area where my company has an office/

After being in that giant patch of concrete that is the Elmwood area, i think I preferred Bourbon st.

The fark folks I met were nice though

I love Cooter Browns.... if Im not in Atlanta that weekend I will definitely be there. Too bad theflatline is still in Florida.

2012-06-26 08:26:08 PM
tricycleracer: I'd go to a Tampa Fark party, but the last group photo I saw looked like a bus full of Shriners and a bus full of Parrotheads collided and the survivors decided to make a night of it.

That is some funny shiate.

Small World. Im one block away. Im sure we've met if you hang out there a lot. Teal has a great thing going. Spent my birthday there last night, and learned that being 37 is much different on the body than being 21. Ha!

Probably best I sit this one out...

I love Cooters. When I was at Tulane you could get a dozen oysters for $3. Unbelievable beer selection.

Please add me to the list. I'm not sure if I will be able to make it back in town for this one, but I would like to know about future events. Hope everyone has fun!

And to add to some of the other comments about the tourists - I agree completely - most people never leave Burboun, and that's just sad. But as another noted - sometimes I don't mind that certain tourists stay right there. Makes my life less stressful and most places a tad quieter. ;)

bigpete add me to your list of NOLA farkers, I think Algiers counts, even if its the Westbank!

St. Charles Streetcar line is definitely still being worked on, so you might have to walk a few blocks to get there if using the streetcar. But Cooters is great, nice choice!

Been looking for a good excuse to get farked up at Cooter Browns again. I'm in. bigpete, put me on the mailing list.

/for those that are wondering, not sure if it's already been covered but: the street car doesn't go down all the way to Carrollton right now
//Pretty sure it stops near Broadway, but even so, it's not much of a hike.

Oh yea, forgot about that.. You'd need to walk down to Broadway to catch the streetcar...Though, the city also runs a bus along the closed part of the steetcar line down St. Charles to broadway

Man I LOVE that pic!

So everyone, how did it go, or given that it's only 1am on a work night, how's it still going?

I'm too drunk to ride my motorcycle and the streetcars are too frustrating this time of night. But I'll definitely make the next one. I do have a tumble full of scotch though...someone convince me in the next hour to call a cab and head uptown?

It's not really an issue anymore. You can eat them year round since they have refridgeration on the boats and trucks now. They are kept ice cold from the moment they are taken out of the water.
