that was neat.

So the next time your kid pretends the floor is lava, tell him to pick up all the trash otherwise the house will explode.

2012-06-26 10:28:15 AM
I don't know... it seemed to work, what's the problem?

2012-06-26 10:35:21 AM
And so ends the tale of the One Ring.

2012-06-26 10:42:06 AM
That was kind of awesome

kind of explains the human sacrifice thing - because it was cool

Yes they do.

2012-06-26 11:36:24 AM
Seemed to work just fine but would you still have to pour bleach down it every once in a while to take care of the odors?

2012-06-26 12:42:00 PM
Well, the garbage was definitely disposed of.

2012-06-26 01:05:22 PM
I'd say that the garbage was disposed of.

Now, in minecraft, they're the best. Except for the fact that no matter how careful you are with the lava, eventually you will touch it and set yourself on fire.

It made it angry. Throw in a virgin.

Whether or not garbage burned was a hefty weight on my mind. I'm glad it's been tested.

2012-06-26 01:28:31 PM
I wonder how many people have accidentally dropped their keys into that?

I have some advice for them.

2012-06-26 01:35:27 PM
I'll reserve judgement until I can watch a few refrigerators disappear into the lava pool. Lava spews and gets pissed off anyway. I don't see why some molten metal and last week's cabbage rolls are going to affect it much. Its fcarking lava, afterall.

when i was a lad of ten or so, my father, myself and my granddad(the estonian one) went on a short vacation. said vacation included a hike into an active volcano (kilauea if you're curious).

the caldera was awesome(honestly so was hiking across the lava fields. like being on the moon). this HUGE pit with lava(ACTUAL LAVA- most awesome thing to ten year old me, and pretty awesome thing to 32 year old me).

when he figured nobody was looking grandad pulled a water balloon out of his backpack and whipped it into the caldera. grandad had a hell of a throw too because he got that sucker damn near into the middle of the pit.

no huge churning lava blast but there was this echoey/rumbling BOOOOOOM that went on for almost a minute and a fair bit of approximately gravel-sized stuff came back up out of the caldera.

my dad was kinda tweaked 'holy crap dad what the hell were you thinking?!?!' 'vell, joo would haff not trow'n it, ahnd Jaan might not haff gotten it to the lava'

my Estonian grandpa was farking awesome.

That was pretty cool...

...Can we do it again with a large brick of dry ice? For...uh...science, or something.

If you ever drop your keys into a river of molten lava, let 'em go, because man, they're gone.

My reaction watching the video:

*ok, here we go.*
*Hmm, deep hole...*
*must have been some heavy trash... it punched a hole in the crust.*
*cool, lava!*
*what the... uh-oh...*
*uh-oh...*
*UH-OH! WE HAVE UH-OH!*

/Because I know you were wondering...

Finally someone filmed it. Human nature, our very instinct, seems to make us need to fling things, or spit, off of high places or into deep holes. For far too many years vulcanologists and other assorted stingy scientists have certainly been throwing shiat into these without sharing. Now we have our own chance to see it. I think pushing a complete auto into one would have to be near the peak of the human experience of throwing things into holes. (twss)

It's too bad David Letterman's show was not based out of Hawaii instead of NYC. We would have had a lot of really awesome footage by now.

30 watermelons dropped into lava would be really neat.

Oh, come on. This was staged. I've seen that Tommy Lee Jones movie. shiat just melts in lava.

You people are idiots to be fooled by this shiat.

As the flames increased in size, I bet the cameraman started to think that they'd triggered a full-scale eruption.

I was thinking they're lucky they didn't trigger a strombolian reaction be allowing pressure to be released too quickly.

So, pretty much the same thing that would have happened if one of those boulders on the edge came tumbling down.

Someone could dedicate a show to throwing things into lava and I'd watch it.

"Up Next Week: We drive a full gas tanker right into a volcano!!!"

That's exactly what I was thinking of, actually.

Except like, the size of a truck... Into lava.

Honestly, it seems like disposal via lava makes the most sense, I can't imagine anything that could pollute molten rock.

If anything it might help with non biodegradable trash. It burns so fast it might even negate some of the chemical burnoff gasses.

No, that's only if you need it to rain.

There is a definite lack of flame in this lava thread. So ill fix it by calling you all idiots and nazi collaborators.

Got my name from the lava in Quake 1. When learning to play it was always ""User Name" does a backflip into the lava." Saw that tag so much had to adopt the name...

What about keys?

2012-06-26 05:31:52 PM
Have they studied at all if doing shiat like that on a bigger level helps induce an eruption, stave off an eruption, yadda yadda?

Which volcano is this? How wide is that caldera? Could a stuntman jump it with a motorcycle? Could a 747 fit in it?
What would happen if you were to throw a full size 4th of July aerial shell into it?

2012-06-26 05:37:53 PM
Throw in a 50 gal vat of water, but freeze it first. Kinda like throwing an ice cube in a deep fryer. pop!

I was pretty sure you were making that term up, and ready to respond with a something relating to pepperonic pressures causing a mozzarellan shift in the magma. I'm no geologist, but I'll be damned, that's actually a thing.

Mt. Stromboli is actually fairly near to my grandparents hometown, and now I'm somehow just a bit more ashamed by how easy my heritage makes it for people and Italian jokes.

You mean it isn't? Cause I'll be damned, my stromboli was filled with magma and caused some serious burning in my mouth. The cheese did nothing to soothe the pain!

The Japanese want to bore a hole through the crust into the mantle, I'm sure it's perfectly safe

all that gas that came from the trash being burnt just magically disappears into the air and nothing bad happens at all
