All the result of people almost universally choosing to act like prey animals when they see a wild predator these days. Everyone wants to get quiet and still so they can get a better look and not frighten it off, when the responsible thing to do (for the sake of people and the animals) is to do your damnedest to scare the living shiat out of it.

A park visitor involved in one of the other coyote incidents from June 21 managed to take a photo of the aggressive animal, and it strongly resembles the coyote removed by the Wildlife Services Agents. No other coyotes were removed from the park.

Killing an animal solely based on their resemblance to a photo? Sounds like a solid plan.

Why the SAD tag? This was an unusually aggressive coyote.

Yeah, let the ravens in Death Valley National Park steal off your picnic table, and they'll reward you by hanging on an updraft a foot or so past the edge of a cliff, trying to lure you into leaping off.

Funny story from just around the corner from this Coyote. There is an itty bitty town on hwy 18 called Otis. They have a bus stop for the local school kids. One day, one of the parents noticed an animal stalking the kids at the bus stop. A few days later someone else noticed, and this time, pulled a gun and started shooting. Didn't hit anything. So someone calls Fish and Game. They send out a guy, who finds a farking cougar living in the area (not at all weird), and this one seems to think the bus stop is a buffet.

So after arguing with the locals, Fish and Game basically says "she hasn't hurt anyone, we aren't doing anything" A week later the cat came out of the woods and walked RIGHT up to a child at the bus stop. Growled a bit and left when an adult came running.

Fish and Game comes back out because they were told this (I was there when the phone call was made). "listen, you come get this cat or I'm mounting it over my fireplace... today."

Fish and Game captures the cat with a tranq gun, and then "relocates" it 100 miles away.

It took 3 months, but the cat came back.

Fish and game relocates it again.

It comes back again. Hangs out near the bus stop again, and takes a 30.06 for it's trouble.

Everyone is happy except the cat. Until the baby bears show up. Oh yeah, the cat was keeping them away from it's territory, but now the bears are free to explore the bus stop, surrounding area and housing units. Fish and Game is probably laughing their asses off. It's called Bear valley, where this all took place, which is part of the Otis area.

Exactly. Exactly. Exactly.

What, we can say we bombed the sh*t out of some town of humans across the globe, killing dozens of people, but we can't say we killed a coyote because he was so hungry that he began encroaching upon the poor widdle peopews campy sites?

So you had a cougar stalking kids at a bus stop. Fish and Game remove it a couple times, but it keeps coming back so someone shoots it (you know, to prevent some kid getting eaten).

Now that the cougar is gone you have bears. Not a big deal really. Not sure why it's funny?

This is normal. You live near the wilderness, occasionally you'll have visitors. It's not a huge deal unless they become aggressive (like the cougar was doing). The bear will likely wander in, and if it doesn't find food, wander back into the forest. You might see it again from time to time. At this latitude it is unlikely it will become aggressive or attempt to "hunt" people.

If it becomes a particular problem (getting into garbage cans) you can run it off with bear dogs or something, but you probably won't have to if you do things right.

/the bear is less of a problem than a stalking cougar.

People are so afraid of "guns" and these days, that they *will* freak out if you say you are going to shoot an animal at a park or some such. So they say things like "safely leathlized" or other seeming silliness.

/just happened up here with the attempted removal of 2 elk from a golf course. (out of a heard of 20 or so).
//people thought a bunch of gun nuts were going to be running around shooting everywhere.
///it was 2 master hunters set up in one location pre-determined by local law enforcement. Not a big deal.

Coyotes are pests around where my family lives. They eat neighborhood cats and go after calves during calving season. My brother has a neighbor that has a small farm and the guy raises chickens and a few cows in addition to farming. During calving season he keeps a few donkeys in with the cows. Donkeys hate coyotes and will collectively chase off any coyote that enters the cow pasture, with much braying and kicking. Quite a site to see actually.

All my life I have felt sorry for Wile E. Coyote and hated the farking Road Runner.
He's a carvivore, for chrissakes, yet he's somehow the bad guy because he wants to eat the road runner. He's farking starving. And despite the fact that he's a supra-genius, all his brilliant plans never work. Never.
Hell, the law of farking gravity will even reverse itself just to screw him over. Why? WHO THE fark KNOWS??? God hates him apparently.

If I ever become rich, i swear I would pay a hundred thousand bucks for one of the pros at Warner Bros. to make me a perfectly authentic new Road Runner cartoon where the Coyote catches, kills, and then slowly roasts that hell-spawn bird on a spit. Correction, have him roast the bird alive while he drools.
Then the sweet, sweet satisfaction as he slowly eats that thing, then sighs, sits back, and relaxes with the evening paper.
This would heal a deep old wound inside me.

Can you tell the difference between your German Shepard and someone else's?

Same thing.

You definitely can identify individuals if you observe them closely enough. Back when we had a coyote problem in my neighborhood, I could identify them by sight.

Nilatire- pick up a dictionary. There's a word for an animal that eats both meat and vegetation. It's called an "Omnivore".
And bears will eat just about anything they can get their mitts on- 'coons, dogs, careless people- whatever.

7.62 is pretty heavy for coyotes. I use my 303 (7.62) for elk. 243 (6mm) or a 270 is more than enough.

From The Farking Article: "A family walking back to their campsite from the beach Thursday evening, June 21, encountered an aggressive coyote while on a park path. A five year old female was injured."

How was she injured? Was she attacked by the coyote? Seems unlikely if the little girl was with her parents. (Well, maybe the parents tried to use her as bait so they could get away, but I find that doubtful.) Or was the girl injured in some other way, such as possibly falling over while running away? Somehow I got a feeling that she was not injured by the coyote.
