Well, prime buffet time is about 4 p.m. and games start at about 7, so it sounds perfect.

Moyer wanted no part of retirement, despite what the previous Fark headline about him stated.

2012-06-26 11:49:09 AM
Yea, Moyer was awful at Coors, so lets put him in the Rogers Center with the next most appearances in places like Yankee Stadium and Fenway. Great idea. And totally not going to happen.

When the O's sent him to AAA, the clause in his contract was 3 starts, then he would be granted his release.

He pitched well at AAA (era under 2 I think) , but the O's have a few off days, and didn't need a 5th starter. Of course they need a 4th starter.

Hope he does well. . .except when playing the O's.

No one hates their family more than Jamie Moyer.

Oh, come on. With all the millions he's made over his career, at least go to the Bellagio Buffet!

I posted this CSB at the end of the other thread way late so I am sure nobody saw it, but Jamie Moyer bought me three beers a few weeks ago when he was pitching in Buffalo. We chatted for quite some time. He is a very nice guy. You would never know he is an athlete if you didn't know who he was. He also left me tickets for the game the next day.

Two interesting notes: he is not fond of the Yankees and he plans to pitch until nobody gives him a chance.

Nah...Moyer's a nice and respectful fella. He'd instead send unsolicited pics to Jenn Sterger of his grandchildren.

Most teams have tried to tell him he's retiring. He's not gotten the message yet.

The only person who thought Moyer was retiring was a dumbass submitter here on Fark who got greenlighted.

Given the rate at which the Jays have been burning through pitchers this month, this was inevitable.

Well, his wife is Digger Phelps' daughter. I'd get sick a tired of the house, kids, wife, etc. being decorated in hilighter colors too.

Of course Tommy John surgery wasn't available then, so when he blew out his right arm he switched to his left.

I've got tickets to next Friday's 51's game. Think he'll be called up before then?

2012-06-26 01:23:47 PM
two things: his style and strengths should allow him to pitch for a long tome (obviously), and, as someone closing in on forty, I hope he pitches forever. good to see him keeping up the good fight

I might have to drive down to Cashman field to see that.

Considering the way the Jays' pitchers are going down with injuries, the other option would be to dress the ballboy as part of the rotation... this might not be much of an upgrade, but if all else fails.

2012-06-26 01:36:22 PM
The O's would have liked to retain him for depth purposes, but he wanted to start not train rookies so I can't blame him for asking for his release.

Already happened. But it wasn't even their own ball boy, it was Tampa's ball boy.
Oh the career of Jesse Litsch.

Thank god Cecil is back.

degenerate-afro: he wanted to start not train rookies

I don't know why people keep thinking he'd be a decent pitching coach in the first place. He's obviously a "doer" not a "teacher" or he would've taken a coaching job ten years ago. Second, it's not like everyone in the league has his level of control. He's in a class by himself; he's the most accurate junkballer since Greg Maddux. (If he wasn't, he wouldn't be getting major league hitters out with his BP fastball.) What do you tell a young pitcher struggling with control that allows him to suddenly hit a wing off a gnat while blindfolded?

I remember when he was teammates with some "promising" prospects like Gil Meche. They didn't learn shiat from him.

I'm hoping I get called up, I couldn't be any worse than Chavez.

He doesn't need to coach to train rookies. While he was on the AAA team, they obviously had people watching him pitch and telling them to take notes on his mechanics and especially his work effort

That's not too far off. The opposing pitcher in Moyer's rookie debut was Steve Carlton.

Christ.

Dude could still pitch effectively when he "retired". Why the hell not? The Jays have lost what, 3 starters in the last three weeks?

Are you *sure* he doesn't need an AA start? Hell, I'm only about fifteen minutes from the Fisher Cats stadium*. He started pitching now I would only miss three, maybe four pitches....

\no, no one up here calls their stadium by its corporate name.
\\hell, I think more people call it by its FORMER corporate name than its current one.
