"Oh he undercover! He undercover! He undercover security! Here come the cop!"

Sad is the only word that describes every aspect of this confrontation and it's despicable commentary track.

What a downer.

Ahh, 240p, we meet again!

Meh. I have seen several shoplifter scenes in real life with different outcomes. She is just a whiney first time caught. In her mind, mom won't buy the stuff I want so I will steal them. Once caught, mom will pay for the stuff and I can go home and have my new stuff. She knows better now. Somebody with a history of shoplifting is usually way more violent.

I know for I have chased a guy down who pushed our security lady to the ground. Also, my dad got stabbed by a shoplifter who was trying to fight for freedom. Third, a large security guy got his head stomped in by a couple who planned for the fight by both wearing steel toe boots. He was out of work for a month. Before I forget, a guy I know was working third shift cashiering and got his foot ran over by a shoplifter trying to escape in their car. They caught themselves by wrecking before leaving the parking lot.

I did like the crowd tormenting her. It may keep her from trying it again.

I thought it was hilarious, but I'm admittedly a horrible person.

Disgusting waste of life, and I'm not talking about the teen shoplifter.

That security guard, or whatever he was, had no idea how to maintain any type of control in that situation. He's lucky that is was just some chick.

Shoplifter seemed to be maintaining till the first 'oh girl, you going to jail.' I think reality began to set in at that moment.

A bit excessive? Wouldn't it have just been enough to follow her to her car, write down the license plate, and then file a police report? Nope.. Undercover Mall Cop's gotta make a scene and show everyone his authoritah. All to bust someone who probably stole a $5 dress from a multi-billion dollar company.

Best shoplifter moment I'd experienced: Used to work for a computer retailer. A guy gets spotted switching price tags on a bunch of items, and it turned out that security / loss prevention had already flagged him as someone who might be doing this, so they had is picture up all over the store behind registers. Sure enough, the guy comes in for the 3rd straight day, he'd stolen a price gun, tagged a $2,500 PC at $400, goes through the register.

As he goes for the door, security confront him and take him aside, just within ear shot of where I was working, and show him the pictures of him from security cameras doing the exact same thing with a bunch of other items, and the register slips from the transactions. All told about $7,000. As they cuff him, he says "WHAT? You're going to have me arrested like some common thief? I'm a professor at $BIGUNIVERSITY!"

Security guy pauses, turns the guy to face him and says "Were. You were a professor, sir. Now you're just a farking thief."

If you aren't going to transport someone, don't stand them up and then get pissy when they shift a little bit when surrounded by idiots, cameras, and people talking trash about them.

And a whole load of this, and I'm generally the kind of person with the ability to laugh at another's misfortune too.

Do you get fired from that position for shoplifting? A. I doubt it. B. He can probably articulate his actions as some kind of social experiment he was into (not that a court would care, but semi-plausible deniability can mean everything when trying to save face and keep your job, and you know those filthy disgusting liberal ivory towers just love them some anti-authority hippy bullshiat :P )

Pretty much this. The woman ends up with a misdemeanor shoplifting charge but the store/security company could have easily ended up with a large personal injury lawsuit.

I can only hope your kidding. You commit a crime, you should be prepared for what comes after. In this case, being physically detained until police arrive. She deserved this, and all the humiliation she brought on herself. How you have any sympathy for a stupid girl who commited a crime, and then thought screaming for her mom would solve the problem is beyond me.

Completely agree. If the undercover security guy was beating the crap out of the girl, that might be cause for alarm. However, he was obviously just detaining her, and if she had any injuries it was probably brought on by her flailing around like an idiot. If anything, he probably saved her a few times from face planting on the concrete. People who steal deserve every bit of humiliation they receive if they get caught. It's great this got uploaded to the internet, because now all her friends and family can point and laugh at her stupidity.

If memory serves, the loss prevention guy was simply referring to that, until the man began his trickery, he may have been a professor, but once he started effectively stealing, he was a thief. I've no idea if the jerk lost his job or not, though I'd be amused to hear him calling his office trying to explain his spending some time in the can.

Also, at that point it was no longer just shoplifting and had leaped directly into felony theft.

I've been caught stealing once when I was 5.
I enjoy stealing. It's just as simple as that.
Well, it's just a simple fact. When I want something,
I don't want to pay for it.

I walk right through the door.
Walk right through the door.
Hey all right!
If I get by, it's mine.
Mine all mine.
