Dafuq I just read? The Jimmy Johns franchises in your areas must be completely jacked if they're not even up to Subway standards.

Is this another thread were we ravishingly lambaste things that are popular because we don't like them?

Is some competitor of Subway funding these anti-Subway threads? It wouldn't surprise me. We certainly get that kind of behavior over in the tech-related threads.

Exactly.

But, I agree with subby, those sandwiches are terrible. Well, I guess if you like a lettuce sandwich, its not bad.

I'm about an hour's drive from Thessaloniki right now, so I'm really getting a kick out of this. However I'm on the beach for about 5 weeks, not checking out any Roman ruins at the moment. Maybe on the way back, flying out of Thessaloniki I can stop in and see this excavation firsthand. Meanwhile my main concern is whether they put salt on the rim of my margarita, those bastards. Hope you farkers are enjoying office life.

Don't complain. You don't want a sandwich made out of the "meat".

Meh, the Subway melt is decent. It depends on which "sandwich artist" you get.

/I know the hoagies at your local sub shop are FAR superior.

In many areas of the country where good sub shops are absent (military bases included), Subway is a welcome addition to the selection. However, their bread is mushy, their cold cuts are bland and the sandwiches overall are not particularly impressive if you grew up in an area that takes subs/hoagies/heroes seriously. I grew up in Buffalo and Philadelphia; we had a lot of great sandwich shops... Subway has nothing on them.

Once I moved to Charleston, the options dried up and I was happy to have Subway instead of just McD's on base. Subway is on every military installation, by the way. Now there are other options that do a better job like Jersey Mike's (inconsistent lately), Jimmy John's (new to us) and some local places as well.

i'm a Farker. i never ate at subway because the bright lights and color schemes they used in the early days really assaulted my senses and disoriented me. well one day maybe three years back my sub shop of choice was out of tuna and i had a tuna Jones that day. so i went to the subway. son of a gun, got the last of tuna the lady said.

this led to three days of discomfort, the first 24 hours being the most special as the repeated vomiting really strained my insides and hurt like the dickens. my wife pointed out that it was long ago when i would drink to excess and puke with ease. man she wasn't kidding.

i got food poisoning from a subway sandwich. i'll never eat there again. subway competitors don't need to hire trolls IMHO, subways real customers (like myself) have their own stories.

Greece is squandering money on an expensive subway when they have a perfectly good road underfoot.

I like Subway. Don't like the cold cuts? Just get all veggies, with some spicy mustard. Pretty tasty (how can you go wrong, really).
/however, that short-lived abomination they tried, barbecued chicken or something, was horrific and whomever came up with it should be shot.

Loves me some Thundercloud Subs---as far as chains go, Lenny's is not bad and I like Quiznos because they can actually toast your sandwhich.

Don't get the hate. Subway is nothing to write home about, but it's cold cuts on bread. What the hell are you expecting?

The "lettuce sandwich" crap might have been accurate 10 or 15 years ago, but they aren't that bad anymore. Plus, you can just say "a little bit of lettuce" or "no lettuce." For people who eat a balanced diet, their sandwiches are just fine.

If you think your sandwich needs 1500 calories of salami, cheese, ranch dressing, and armpit grease, go to Quiznos. If you want a mayonnaise slimeball, go to Jimmy John's. Those two places are like taking Subway, which like all fast food places is at best mediocre, and stripping out the good parts.

People like to exaggerate on the internet

Penis size, physique, taste in food, amount of money made.

Nearly everyone here would eat a subway sub if it was free and they were able to keep it a secret.

Kind of like boning a fat chick.

Who doesn't like Subway? That's like saying you don't like groceries. You can make any sandwich you want on bread they bake fresh that day. There is a very tangible reason it has the most stores of any fast food chain in the world.

Not getting the Subway or Jimmy John's hate. The bread's okay, the ingredients are passable, and you can even get an inexpensive cup of yogurt at Subway now.

Getting back to the non-news story..........I was in T-niki last June, and there is an open construction trench going right down the center of the main drag (Egnatia) for a number of miles but we didn't know why. Kind of fun to look down and see the ancient roadway stones, but then again you can't help but trip over artifacts. The White Tower down at the waterfront has a very cool display of local history:

I'm currently eating a Subway sandwich ($5 footlong Oven Roasted Chicken: spinach, tomato, cucumbers, black olives, red onions, green peppers, banana peppers, oregano, black pepper) and am getting a kick out of these replies.

Somehow, I missed the "Subway" reference and was thinking that subby was knocking Greek sandwiches, which would be a filthy lie. Gyros and Souvlakis are the bomb, and I've never had either like the ones I could get at little street carts in Athens anywhere else in the world. Love that stuff.

Too bad the diet is so limited, after living there for the better part of two years, I was pretty sick of Greek food. I've gotten over that, and love going to the Greek Festivals at the local Orthodox churches, and loading up on the authentic stuff made by the yayas. Spanikoptias, the aforementioned sandwiches, good feta and olive oil... Yum!

But there's one thing I still haven't gotten over, and it's coming on thirty years since I lived there:

"Greek Popular" music. I can't stand it. To this day, if I hear a Bouzouki, I get kinda stabby.
