Taking a propane torch to a mass of bugs is really fun. All their tiny limbs make their deaths pretty quick, so it might be more humane than poison. They also have no idea how to react to death by heat as a group.

They say you can somewhat pacify bees with smoke. Anyone ever try weed smoke? I've hit a ladybug with some one time and it was quite comical. I'm crawling this way...no, I'm crawling up this dudes hand..Wait, wtf is this thing? I'm crawling on a HUGE hand that can crush me!! bzzaaahhhhhh!! fly away...fly away now!!

Bee swarms are usually pretty docile. That doesn't mean you should go up and pet them, but since they don't have a hive or food stores to protect, they're a lot less likely to sting. What they do when they separate is, the new queen takes the swarm a short distance away from the old hive, then they crowd en masse around something- a tree limb, a structure, etc. in what's called a "bee ball." Then, a few "scouts" are sent out to find a suitable location for a new hive. After the scouts return, the mass of bees takes off for its new home and they begin the process of building the new hive.

It seems to work the same as smoke on them. As it is, though, you don't produce that much smoke, and you will still get hit (where they fly right into you at full speed) by a couple if you get too close.

Also, the article mentioned that it is illegal to kill bees in B.C. How cool is that?
