BTW they're both on the team already, it's just an issue of which one will get to run the 100 meter dash and the 4 x 100 meter relay and which one will only get to do the relay.

I am pretty sure they are just in the relay pool, neither one is guranteed a spot in the actual race.

At least that is how the US does it for the Worlds, I am assuming Olympics are the same.

When does the NFL do this? I just looked at the tie procedure in the rule book and saw nothing like this.

My fault. I thought you were referring to a tie game, not a division tie. I'm not sure why I thought that, since yours is far more applicable to this discussion.
