Meh. No matter how big a douchebag the guy is, the President pretty much has to acknowledge his win. Non-story.

2012-06-25 09:32:16 AM
So we're supposed to be against democracy in the Middle East again? I can never keep up with politics.

WTF is this guys problem? Doesn't he know his place?

edmo: So we're supposed to be against democracy in the Middle East again? I can never keep up with politics.

Only if they choose a Christian President, otherwise we must invade them and install a Christian government.

2012-06-25 09:38:01 AM
Yeah, probably easier to just let us know when the unhinged wingnuts that make up the GOP don't get outraged about something the President did...

Those clowns have been in a perpetual stage of "outrage" since January 2009.

2012-06-25 09:38:38 AM
He might have been a little premature in that call.

2012-06-25 09:42:20 AM
Isn't that something that most presidents do as a courtesy?

2012-06-25 09:42:23 AM
Right here on this site I learned that the military should boot out the democratically elected president in order to preserve democracy.

2012-06-25 09:43:51 AM

Craptastic: Isn't that something that most presidents do as a courtesy?

Yeah. It's stuff like this, President Obama doing normal stuff that he should do, and getting crap for doing it, that led to the 'WE GET IT, HE'S BLACK' meme.

except in the palestinian territories, when hamas took power under free elections. those were held during the bush administration, so they're ok and proof that democracy is sometimes a "messy thing."

2012-06-25 09:47:01 AM
Well yeah, things like "governing" and "diplomacy" are concepts the GOP doesn't understand, much less practice.

Comments are golden.

"Teri Kalafate then theyll probably get first rid of the only tomb closed off the public which is the tomb of abraham OR should i say amenehemet I - (means amun is the head). Amun = amen (vowels were interchangeable in the hebrew language). without realising it people are continuously praising the hidden one. christians muslems and jews have been tricked into praising the god amun ra at the end of every prayer. Cant have that getting out people might find out what was in those dead sea scrolls."

Supposedly they voted for the Muslim Borotherhood guy because they were dissatisfied with the other guys performance.

Sort of like whats gonna happen here in November.

Wait a minute - weren't we trying to spread democracy and elections to the Middle East?

'"to advance the many shared interests between Egypt and the United States".

What shared interests does the US have with the Muslim Brotherhood.. the destruction of America?'

'How do you say "Ubetcha!" in Kenyan??'

'Ooogaubetchabooga?'

I weep for the future present.

You're predicting a Democratic house and a filibuster proof Dem Senate? That's pretty bold... I'm not sure that's going to happen.

I remember conservatives getting in a tizzy over that too, but at the same time, since bush had pushed for elections, they got bored of being outraged real quick

Jay Carney said he expects Egypt to respect women's and religious minority rights and also expects Egypt to be a pillar of regional peace, security and stability in the Middle East. Wow!!! That is so not going to happen.

The phone call was a mere warm up to Nobongo HUSSEIN Schmobama seeing him and giving him real congrats at the next RADICAL MUSLIN LEADERS meeting.

Uh, why not?

Egypt has been a fairly secular country for years. It has a small but powerful Christian minority. Women were a major part of the revolution and while some may be willing to become second class citizens now, many have experienced greater power than they've ever had in their lives.

These are the types of things that make idiots who live in fear of a New World Order prattle on about things that involve starting a New World Order. But based on their weird idea of Americanism so it isn't a bad new world order.

Hey look man, we're trying to have an honest and open debate here about exactly how terrified we should be of the creeping islamic threat in....the islamic world. Don't go confusing us with your historical accuracy and nuanced perspective.

What's the general feeling inside Egypt? Will the military succeed in making the president a figurehead? If they do, what might the public reaction be? Is the new President expected to be a strong advocate for civilian (not necessarily secular) government?

Didn't we go through this same shiat with Turkey when the Musilm party won there too?

It's been a few years and it still hasn't turned into Saudi Arabia yet.

Wow, so many people in the comments of that article seem to hate democracy.

Sometimes people get voted in you don't like or who are bad for the country. In order to participate in a democracy you need to get over it.

/they think a puppet dictatorship that shares their views will save them from the scary brown people.
//you can't keep doing what fails.

I'm guessing that if the people don't like the way the government goes, we're going to see more of the same. They've realized that they have enormous power through demonstrations and other direct public action.

/we could learn a lesson or two in this country.

Didn't the military essential suck the power out of the president before announcing that the MB guy won? I thought I heard that on TV last night.

So he's basically like Queen Elizabeth II except Muslim right?

Was listening to an interview with the Islamic Brotherhood guy. He was asked if he was going to turn Egypt into an Islamist state. His reply was along the lines of "Can't really do that. Egypt is kind of set in its ways".

Terrible paraphrasing. It's early and I'm coming down with a cold.

One of the reasons is if you have an actual democracy you will be voted out if you do stupid shiat... it usually works to keep the crazies from taking over.

/For example: if RON PAUL is elected, he will keep the Social Security checks rolling, believe it.
//the next generation will probably be screwed though.
