The Prague Zoo has a tortoise that is believed to be of the same species, but even if it is unless some females are found I suppose extinction is inevitable.

/unless we can figure out a way to clone them

pippi longstocking: His kind was actually eaten to extinction by British explorers.
Seriously.

Then it doesn't matter, because if those tortoises can't rise up and kill us all, they deserve to be dead. Extinction is a completely natural process and it's just a coincidence that we win every single time.

Oh, last of his kind as in being indefinitely detained without charge or trial. They had me thinking he was the last last of his kind, but then that whole 'read the complete article thing' happened and I'm good now. Was kinda pissed but dying in captivity is a blessing, not a curse.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I actually got to see Lonesome George back in '04.

'Motionless' pretty much sums it up.

Occasionally, the fishermen will go ashore in the Galapagos and kill tortoises and iguanas for the hell of it. They do it because they feel that their "God-given rights" are being trampled upon.

I used to have a pet tortoise. My, at the time, girlfriend, forgot to bring him inside while I was on a business trip. He died from exposure. I don't think I ever forgave her.
