I'm sure Maxine Waters will be held to the same rigid standards of behavior to which the ethics committee held Newt Gingrich back in the day.

When you get to the point where you realize that the process virtually necessitates that all politicians are scumbags, it's very liberating. You stop searching for heroes whose honor you have to defend because they belong to your team.

Try explaining that to your average Farker, though. She's easily one of the most corrupt politicians in Washington, but because she has a D after her name and she's a minority, to Farkers (and the idiot voters in LA, of course) she's automatically better than every single Republican.

Remember, though; you can't hold her to any sort of ethical standard or disagree with her politically, or you'd be racist.

How about a Democrat with principles? Primary the biatch and get someone better in there. But no challenger stands a chance against her either in a primary or a general election because all of the entrenched interests getting rich off of her would have their gravy train stop. They don't want that to happen, so they'll have waterfalls of money to keep the partisans in line. No outside challenger within the party stands a chance, and because so many people in LA think exactly like you ("we can't EVER vote for a Republican; they're ALL equally bad"), we're stuck with her.

Weaver95: I'm sure Maxine Waters will be held to the same rigid standards of behavior to which the ethics committee held Newt Gingrich back in the day.

In a letter sent Wednesday to Ms. Waters that summarized the findings, the leaders of the Ethics Committee's review of the Waters matter - Representatives Robert W. Goodlatte, Republican of Virginia, and John Yarmuth, Democrat of Kentucky - acknowledged that Mr. Martin's inquiry had corroborated some of the allegations raised by Ms. Waters against the ethics committee.

Mr. Goodlatte and Mr. Yarmuth said, for instance, that a former staff member for the Ethics Committee appeared to have violated House and committee rules by leaking confidential information in the case to the news media.

Some staff members also held private conversations about the findings with certain committee members but not others, the two lawmakers said; these conversations, the letter acknowledged, could "raise concerns about staff partisanship."

Finally, in response to charges of racial bias brought by Ms. Waters, who is black, the ethics committee leaders said in their letter that the investigation "revealed some evidence of insensitive remarks" by a former staff member.

But Mr. Goodlatte and Mr. Yarmuth said that while they considered these remarks "inappropriate," this and other problems identified in the handling of the inquiry did not rise to the level of denying Ms. Waters a fair hearing.

Or maybe not?

See, that's where you're wrong. I would vote republican... if they weren't batshiat crazy. When the republicans stop trying to tell me who I can love, stop telling me taxes to support the country are taken at gun point, stop trying to legislate women's bodies, stop trying to shove jebus down outlr throats, etc, etc, etc, I'll vote for one. Until then, I'll vote for the candidate who doesn't sound schizophrenic.

He wouldn't have responded the way he did if he wasn't a fan of either Waters herself or the Democrats in general. Not to extend this to you, personally (because I don't know you), but as soon as you as a group focus the majority of your objections based on verifiable misdeeds and douchebaggery, you can expect others to stop wondering aloud why you protest so vehemently.

In this case, Waters is a walking, talking c-word. I support her politics but can't support the person behind them. So we can agree on that.

But we usually laugh (or cry) when the most cogent anti-Obama argument at a Tea rally is some vague claim about the Constitution being usurped or reclaiming our country from the jaws of recently invented socialism. You can't blame us for thinking your 'conservative' ilk are flinging rhetoric that's based on something other than the facts at hand. And it's not relegated to Congress...you're own front-running primary candidates were slinging it, not to mention America's most popular single cable news source that's somehow retained hipster status as not being mainstream.

GO ahead, keep complaining about being called a racist. But you need to look at your friends and be honest with yourself. What's motivating all the people attacking the POTUS armed with nothing but being uneasy with his occupancy of the White House? Hyper-partisanship can explain away only so much of it.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Hence why in the end, you don't care about corruption in politics - as long as it's your guy who's being corrupt. Don't bother trying to vote for someone who's at least principled and who might be persuaded to listen to reason; nope, because you bought into the lip service they've made to the few issues you care about, you'll look past the privileged lives these people have led at YOUR direct expense and that you will never have the chance to experience.
