Fark Party
Host: The Ice Cream Man
Description: Reminder: Royal Oak Michigan Fark Party: Monday, August 13th, 2012. Come for the movie premiere, stay for the Dream Cruise
Date/Time: August 13, 2012 - 09:00 PM (local time)
Party Info: Hey, y'all:

I finally finished a movie, titled: "Confessions of an Ice Cream Man" which will premiere at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan. The showtime will be at 7 p.m. the day of the party. Tickets will be $10 per person for the show. The Fark Party/movie after party will be at 9 p.m. We are planning to charge $20 per person for the afterparty, which will have a free buffet line and drink tickets. Drinks will be pay as you go, since this is a Monday night event and many people indicated they won't be staying much longer than an hour.

The bar is called Mr. B's. It is a local chain, and it has excellent food, service, and prices. It is also a place where the pretentious hipster and boorish slob can coexist in peace and harmony. In other words, perfect for Farkers.

Sorry,as much as I would like to, I really can't offer any free passes, due to out of pocket costs, the theater rental, and promotion . Marketing is gonna kill me. Yes, we are going the Kickstarter route; I will provide a link to that when it is ready to fly.

This will be a "Camera Friendly" motion picture networking event symbolizing the Great Spirit of Detroit! So c'mon down, bring your camera's, dress for photo ops, and show some of that famous Detroiter support.

Just so you know, I DID run this by Drew, via e-mail. Drew referred me to Big Tony, his enforcer sales v.p., so all is kosher.

Questions? E-mail to doubleoddbob[nospam-﹫-backwards]liamg*com. Please be patient, as I must work off of borrowed computers. No internet at home, sorry!

Detwah: Boston-Edison is holding a neighborhood wide sale on the 11th and 12th.
Not exactly related....but.
Also, why not schedule this for Friday the 10th?

Because prior to the party I am SHAMELESSLY promoting my movie at this theater, which only will rent out Monday thru Thursday, and then we can go two blocks south to this bar, which is only available Monday the week of the Dream Cruise. Thought I made that clear in the party details at the top of the thread. But hey, you go to my party, I'll go to yours!

Just to be clear, you can go to the movie @ 7 p.m. and skip the party, or go to the party @ 9 p.m. and skip the movie. Doesn't matter to me. Likewise, the run up to the Dream Cruise starts the Monday prior to the Big Day. You wouldn't see much in Royal Oak on the prior weekend. Thankfully, the crowds don't get too big, but there are enough classic cars to make it interesting on Monday.

... a MONDAY though!

If I can bail on work..well...any AA folks planning to drive in let me know. EIP.

Still thanks for your effort. For that alone I'll give it my best shot.

/... ride and work depending
//the SO and I share a car and 'need for work' is an automatic trump card

FYI, Royal Oak has a transit center about 1/2 mile from Main Street. Greyhound Bus AND Amtrack both stop there, so alternative transit is available. I guess if you live near U of M, the Greyhound would work, or if you lived in Kerrytown, the train station would be close by.

/by AA, she means Ann Arbor
//not the other AA

I just had to tell you-- you have one of the funniest Fark handles I've seen. Why do I now feel the need to run to the kitchen and check my kitchen utensils???

Gotta work Monday and Tuesday. The train is too much of a hassle and I can't count on it to not be a few hours late. Fine for going home for a weekend, not for a commute. And Greyhound... agh...

/AA does indeed equal Ann Arbor
//we share a car 'cause we can both bike or carpool or bus to work anyway, 'cause it's close, you know, not 'cause a judge ordered either one of us

Don't stay for the Dream Cruise. In fact, do what all sane people who live within 2 miles of Woodward Ave. do: get the fark out of town for the Dream Cruise.

Why thank you. Might be a good idea because you never know where I am lurking around.

2012-06-25 10:06:34 AM
Wha? You want me to ride to Royal Oak, fight through cruise traffic and the mess of downtown RO, just to watch some farkers shiatty movie and drink the overpriced watered-down crap that Mr. B's serves with a bunch of internet shut-ins?

Sweet. I'm there. Best Monday ever.

2012-06-25 10:36:53 AM
For those complaining about Woodward who are not close to Royal Oak: use the Campbell exit.

2012-06-25 10:39:24 AM
Would I be able to lurk if I attend, or would that be too creepy?

2012-06-25 11:37:46 AM
The Dream Cruise was pretty sweet in the late 90's. There were street races, burn outs, bewbies, and the like after dark. Now they shut down the show after the sun goes down. It's still really cool, and there's lots of cool cars, but it's a bit more "clean" now. Great time if you love cars and can find a place to stay and park.

2012-06-25 01:09:37 PM
Ugh... Dream Cruise. Maybe I'll show up anyway.

2012-06-25 05:16:18 PM
I checked the dates. Dream Cruise is actually the following Saturday (so it will only be mostly packed instead of ridiculously stupidly packed).

That being said, since it's NOT actually during the dream cruise, I may actually head over to this one. It doesn't hurt that it's only a couple miles from my house and I'm quite good at taking side roads home from the bars...

I've missed all the other detroit/pontiac/ann arbor gatherings, so it might be nice to finally go to one.

/not buying streetlight any drinks.

EIP... I get to go up north for work for a week or two in July / Aug(Petoskey / Charlevoix / Traverse). I love it but from experience one night away from close quarter coworkers would be a good thing.

Do you like Petoskey/Charlevoix? Been to TC, cute but *small*... we did a week honeymoon there and had to branch out to other areas, but missed P/C.

AverageAmericanGuy: Just curious. How many Farkers are up there.

I can see how places like Seattle, San Francisco/Bay Area, NYC, and Chicago might have quite a few Farkers. But for all the hate piled onto Detroit, I wonder how many people are actually from there.

I attempted to throw one about 2 years ago in Royal Oak and 4 people attended. And that's including me! :o(

Well, Detroit has been undergoing a renaissance of sorts. There may be more people this time.

The Ice Cream Man:

For what it's worth, someone held a Detroit Fark party at Goodnight Gracies (also in Royal Oak) in February some years ago. The party sponsor bailed when only 3 people showed up, but come on!! He only stayed a couple hours!!! No one shows up at a party right when it starts! I got all bundled up, rode my motorcycle over there, and saw....nobody. The next day, the guy comments that he only had a couple attendees from Traverse City. I showed up at 7 p.m., the party was over at 5. I assure you, I will be there, barring death or disabliity

Umm...that was me. I got there about 6:30pm, the party was scheduled to start at 7pm. The last person showed up around 8ish. We all stayed until around 10 or so. They place took our reserved seats away at around 8 as well and we only had one table at that point. Sorry we didn't stay longer. I thought being there for 3+ hours was enough and we all decided that no one else was coming and called it a night. Especially since it was getting late and the bar was filling up with it's regular crowd and kinda taking us over.

StreetlightInTheGhetto:
/Especially whoever promised me free drinks if I showed up to the last one..

Man I really should have read through this entire post before commenting. I promise, I'm not spamming here!

Anyways, I do believe it was me who offered to buy you a drink. I'm not 100% if I'll be able to go to this one (it depends on if I'm back to work by then or not (I'm having shoulder repair surgery about a month earlier), and I work evenings), but if I can go, I will make good on that promise.

It's small but I effing love it. Petoskey more (swimming at the wave break so awesome) but Charlevoix has a nice small state park and a great closes-at-3 diner. We work late and getting there before they close is what drags us out of our beds and hangovers

I'm from that area (Harbor Springs/Petoskey), and it's beautiful. P-town has a decent night life in the summer, too. You would have to hit up the Mitchell St. Pub if you go. I now live way up north MI. Probably not enough interest for a Fark party up here.

If you make it as far as Petoskey, you have to go to Harbor Springs and get a sandwich from Gourney's Deli, and a few drinks from the Bar Harbor. Both will be busy during summer months, but worth it.

Okay, this is completely random, but my brother wants me to grow hops for him and I haven't yet met a person who does, much less someone in Michigan. EIP and I could do a seed exchange if you'd like or something?

I've worked in Harbor Springs while out there but we always ate/drank in Petoskey/Charlevoix. I'll have to check that out, thanks.

My office is like 10 minutes from downtown Royal Oak via i-696. Can't promise attendance as it's like the day after I return from my Florida vacation.

Mr. B's is really easy is to find - on Main Street south of 11 mile on the east side of the street. The theater is right at 11 mile and main (north east corner). Easy walk between the theater to the pub but pay attention to the vehicular traffic. Downtown parking is probably gonna suck the week of the dream cruise.

Jesus. I moved out of Royal Oak because of the Dream Cruise. Living a block off of Woodward at 13 Mile for 7 years soured me on fat old men and gasoline. Can't imagine voluntarily going back there while it's happening. Good luck on the movie, though !

The Ice Cream Man: Ann Arbor has a lot of Farkers, so we might get some migration, if they can get past any freeway construction.

I would be so all over an AA Fark party, since I am literally down the road, right between AA and Detroit. Royal Oak is a bit of a trek for a Monday night at the bar, but who knows. I'll keep an open mind.

It's called 'spring construction'. Doesn't matter though.

Fun fact: I was taught that the reasons our roads sucked was our weird weather, thaw then freeze = water under roads effing things up... then I gre up, drove into Ontario (same damn climate, at least southern) and then realized despite miles upon miles of driving almost all of MI south of Mt Pleasant... I've only seen one truck weigh station actually open that I can remember, since I started doing regular long drives. Maybe two.

I grew up about 8 miles from the Dream Cruise. My dad and brother and I BIKED there. Try some exercise.
