The new Rumpelstiltskin Grinder album has been on non-stop rotation for me this past week. So damn good.

I'm guessing most of the regulars are already aware of Rwake, but I just picked up their album Rest and it's pretty awesome. Sort of a Southern-style doom band with sludge elements to it, but, despite the long songs, they keep things changing and it never gets boring.

Here's the excellent It Was Beautiful, But Now It's Sour

Oh yeah, I thought the submission was pretty weak this time. I liked the addition of the middle eastern elements to the sound; sort of sounded like Melechesh if they were terrible.

But, hey, I'm not going to complain because I like this thread every week. If we have to put up with the occasional turd to get this thread, I can deal with it.

Hey, here's some new Witch Mountain.

That's the nicest thing I've seen you say about a band.

Why am I always attracted to guys like the lead singer in this band?

Anyway, yeah, I see a few comments about how weak this selection is, but I do like the guitar-part bookmarks. I don't think it sucked, overall.

Not into it but....
1. They appear to be able to actually play (write, otoh...?)

2. Anyone else think they deserve massive points for just staying alive in an increasingly Islamist country?

Not a huge death/bands who play dress-up fan.
Currently listening to Helevorn, and Place of Skulls.

Hot damn - that's good.

I've been listening to a lot of Diablo Swing Orchestra all week - their new album is my favorite of the year so far, and it's likely to stay that way unless something really spectacular comes out of left field.

My favorite song so far is: Guerilla Laments

Something else good is - Binah - A New Rotten Dawn (death)

Did anyone catch any of the Graspop footage? Tip 'o the cap to NoCleanSinging, who blogged about a Dutch site that streamed most or all of the shows. I caught Jon Oliva's Pain this morning in time to see them do the full album of Hall of the Mountain King. That was excellent and really brought me back - I haven't listened to that album in years!

I've praised and reco'd many bands in these threads

There are better Turkish metal bands (with less money) out there:

Thrashfire - World Domination

Pentagram - Forevery Fly, Trailblazer, Bir

Kara Kedi - anything, really. The singer...oh my lord.

Moribund Oblivion - anyhting from about five years ago

not metal, but still worth a listen:

Pilli Bebek - siyah beyaz

Mavi Sakal - Iki yol

Yavuz Cetin - the entire album of Satilik

Kargo - Saririn Elinde

Sebnem Ferah - Vazgectim Dunyadan

This week I've been listening to 777 sect(s) by Blut Aus Nord. I'm on a bus so no link, but very good stuff. Dark, dissonant and oddly beautiful French (experimental?) Black Metal. And no, not at all like Alcest.

Blut Aus Nord is legendary. I'm liking what they're doing with the current stuff, even if it isn't as good as Work or Fathers.

18 comments? I remember when the SHMHC threads were more lively. Since it switched to the entertainment tab they've dropped off.

Been listening to a lot of Cascadian Black Metal lately.

Honestly, are people like this allowed to exist in Muslim nations?

I pretty much figured the murderers had already smoked them all out.

Frankly this is the some of the corniest black metal I've ever seen, but I'm astounded by the point of its origin.

There are quite a few bands from Muslim countries. Check out the documentary on Acrassicauda (thrash band from Iraq) if you get the chance - it's really mindblowing what they went through over there.

Sadly, the number of comments hasn't changed much (I've been keeping track for shiats and giggles).

we were on the video tab for about a year, with an average of 38.6 comments per thread
since we switched to the entertainment tab, we've had an average of 40.2 comments per thread.

But since the music tab died the thread hasn't cracked 100, and the Celtic Frost thread from a month ago was the highest total (87).

But eh, as long as the music flows, everything's good.
