Sheldon Adelson 2010: I am not Israeli. The uniform that I wore in the military, unfortunately, was not an Israeli uniform. It was an American uniform, although my wife was in the IDF and one of my daughters was in the IDF ... our two little boys, one of whom will be bar mitzvahed tomorrow, hopefully he'll come back-- his hobby is shooting -- and he'll come back and be a sniper for the IDF. Gingrich on Adelson.

People close to Mr. Adelson said that he wants to be certain about Mr. Romney's positions on key issues, including support for Israel against aggressors in the Middle East. Mr. Adelson has publicly criticized President Barack Obama's support of Israel as too weak.
Mr. Adelson has told friends that he intends to give at least $100 million to conservative causes and candidates this election cycle. He contributed some $250,000 to Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, who just won against a labor union-forced recall election there. [link]

they have problems with rich people spending huge money when they disagree with them politically and only when they disagree with them politically.

typical hypocritical liberal authoritarians. they want the freedom to do what they want, but also want the ability to proscribe your actions when they deem immoral and unhealthy for you personally or society as a whole.

'No American is dedicating as much of his money to defeat Obama as Adelson, the casino magnate who has made more money in the last three years than any other American.' So, what does he want?

I think they want more, subby. It doesn't matter how far to the right Obama and the democrats move, they want more. Heck, Boehner apparently got 98% of what he wanted, and it still wasn't enough. In the meantime, while conservatives and the base keep pushing the envelope, the democrats vehemently discourage their own base from making waves. They are all being bullied into accepting increasingly conservative policies.

The situation in America is going to keep getting worse and worse until Americans reject both parties and their corporatist agenda.

He didn't say that. Don't put words in his mouth.

What he 'did' say was that there were war profiteers in WWI that happened to be Jewish. This is not a lie, nor is it an anti-Semitic statement, it's simple reality.

It's not saying that the Jews brought it upon themselves, but it IS saying that when Hitler said that there were Jew war profiteers, he wasn't lying, he was simply using that as an excuse and scapegoat to murder the entire Jewish population.

and it is therefore unusual to see them telling the unvarnished truth, that they only object to rich guys spending money when the rich guys happen to disagree with them, when the truth is they are so transparently capricious and hypocritical.

I get the point that you disagree with the editorial but don't act so shocked and outraged when an editorial *shock* has an opinion that might be different from yours.

Editorials don't always agree with you.

"See, you look at this as an investment. I'm a smart man. When I invest money, I expect a return on an investment. Think about it this way. If a company wants to dump toxic waste, they find a small town, invest $10,000 on an underdog candidate for mayor, the guy wins, he lets them dump their crap in his town. The company has spent 10 grand, but they saved 2 million in dumping costs. It's an investment. Same thing here, just a little bigger scale."
