If the government goes after wallyworld, will the government jail itself for putting millions of guns in the hands of criminals via Fast and Furious?

Yeah, but that was the fault of democrats in Congress, an over zealous staffer, and that RINO Reagan.

It's too bad that thhe President couldn't follow the strong leadership of Reagan, Peace Be Upon HIs Name, but went the RINO route.

Hey guys, guess who didn't read the f*cking article? Neither did I! But I still clicked the link and saw the hypothetical Breitbart bullsh*t.

2012-06-24 09:17:10 AM
since this is breitbart, i'll go ahead and assume the opposite is true - that walmart legally sold guns to a bunch of people. what kind of boring story is that?

2012-06-24 09:41:38 AM
Since it is Breitbart.com, are these really Walmarts with guns or doctored videos of Walmarts with guns?

It's not even that. The "writer" seems to have some difficulty understanding that private businesses and government have different functions, and imagines that Democrats would condemn Wal-mart for acting like a branch of the government. It's really rather bizarre.

According to deadmoran.com, law enforcement officers are not allowed to do anything that a normal, run-of-the mill civilian can't do. So the next time you get pulled over for speeding, just go right ahead and tell the officer that since you can't pull people over, the officer must be breaking the law.

Take out "may have" and add "What if" to the beginning of submitter's headline. That's what the (frankly moronic) "article" is about.

As a Democrat, of course I would condemn Wal-Mart for acting like a branch of the government because it's not a branch of the government, and it shouldn't be trying to map out criminal gun running organizations.

. . . so, is this the worst analogy ever? I mean, the two situations are really, really different.

Millions? Or, millions UPON millions?

If you're going to be a hyperbolic, little dink, you really should reach for the stars. It will set you apart from the other tortured imbeciles who "think" as you do.

If Walmart did it, it would have been called Operation Fat and Spurious.

What if Walmart, the "largest seller of firearms and ammunition in America," had knowingly sold 2,500 firearms to straw purchasers with the intent of having those purchasers carry those guns across an international border and sell them to drug cartel members in Mexico?

The problem with this analogy is that had Fast & Furious never happened, the exact same number of guns would have been sold and they would have wound up in the same places they already did. They only difference is that the Phoenix ATF were watching it happen. I guess you could argue for some sort of observer effect, but I'd guess that the differences between watched gun sales and unwatched gun sales would have been minimal.

If Walmart were to be analogous with the ATF in this situation, the ATF would have had to have brought to market 2500 guns that otherwise would not have been sold. (To buyers who wouldn't have otherwise have not had guns, I guess?)

So do guns kill people or not? I like the 2nd amendment even just as a counterweight to the police. Keep them on their toes. I'm willing to accept the statistically not all that scary chance of getting shot and the some thousands of preventable and unnecessary deaths. Big deal. We sell cigarettes, alcohol, cars and fast food as well. It's an endearing cultural quirk and living abroad I actually sometimes feel compelled to defend it (even as a liberal who believes in reasonable restrictions) in the face of the contempt and perplexity many seem to have towards our peculiar institution.

The government can also pretend to be prostitutes, sell people fake bombs, and they never use their blinker. Welcome to real life.

2012-06-24 11:04:07 AM
When did Walmart get into law enforcement? Never? Oh that would explain why they would end up in jail over it, as it would have made them vigilantes that failed. Does any of this make the DOJ selling guns to cartels better? No, but it does not make it the same thing as Walmart illegally selling guns.

But I was told that this never happened and that Fast and Furious was part of a conspiracy to institute gun laws against innocent US citizens.

The gov't has certain abilities. They can't however do anything they want. The author is clumsily pointing out how the reaction by partisan Dems have been over this scandal. It'll probably be another John Edwards style reaction where once the illegality becomes so blatently obvious that it hurts them electorally they'll pretend as if they were always on the right side.

The gov't aiding smugglers funneling guns into Mexico is one of those things that is so vaguely criminal it should be investigated and whoever acted in support of it should be terminated and whatever charges that fit should be filed.

Criminals are going to get guns one way or the other. As long as they're getting them from Wal*Mart, there's a 33% chance the gun won't work anyway.

I heard that some buses in Israel keep beef inside of them to try to prevent Muslim bombers from targeting the bus. That also discourages normal Muslim passengers..but..BURGERS!! mmmmmmm..huh?

Screw Fast and Furious, but Walmart has even less of a right to sell guns to cartels. Your question is invalid, Breitbart, and go die in a fire...well..um, get cremated?

I noticed that the link to the site was missing. I was confused, until I remember that I adblocked Breitbart. Then I didn't understand why it was a negative headline about guns and business. Those are two important constituencies of the Republicans - gun nuts and "corporations are people my friend" zombies. I think a certain editor is going to get canned in the near future. Probably with doctored video making them out to be a drug addict or something.
