Authorities were tipped off by neighbors who reported an endless stream of windowless vans and strange men approaching the house asking to "test drive" the child.

The woman, who is from out of state, said she came to the Dallas area with the intent to buy the baby, named "Eden," but got cold feet and called authorities.

Lady, you have to close on the deal once you get this far. When are you going to find a baby this nice at this price again?

You can't get a decent baby for $4000. That's way below Kelley Blue Book value.

Cold feet, eh? What happened, they promised to throw in some meth as an extra, then reneged? Cold feet, my ass. She wasn't going to get what she wanted on top, so she snitched.

Free market economy. Check. No taxes. Check.

This seems like the conservative dream.

Why, as a pup I myself fetched $30,000 on the black market. But them's 1954 dollars.

What blows my mind is that "Child Abandonment with Intent to Return" is a felony. She left the kid in her apartment, didn't she? It's not like she dropped the kid off at a shopping mall for twelve hours.

If it's considered "abandonment with intent to return" to leave your kid at home, then my parents were both ultra-hard criminals in my youth.

Unless she left the kid by itself for days. Or is it different when they're an infant? (seriously, educate me here, please. I want to know.)

What the article doesn't indicate is that the ad in question did in fact appear on craigslist.

Does that come with two sides?

This obviously wasn't a blue eyed, big-haired, Toddlers and Tiaras type baby. Those go for much more.

it may be illegal but IMO the kid would be much better off if the potential buyer just followed through.

If you're not picky about quality, you can pick up a baby for $25 in a Walmart parking lot.

They entered her apt to collect rent? How does that work? They should just be honest and say they were looking for an at-risk baby.

Say that reminds me, how'd you get that kid so darn fast? Me and Dot went in to adopt on account a' somethin' went wrong with my semen, and they said we had to wait five years for a healthy white baby. I said, "Healthy white baby? Five years? What else you got?" Said they got two Koreans and a negra born with his heart on the outside. It's a crazy world.

I only serve organic free range babies at my dinner table. And no Chinese babies lest we feel peckish again in an hour.

Because the city and the state were not going to get any profit from the sale.

Well considering the area of town the apartment complex is in, I'm pretty sure it was a refurbished baby, possibly dented and scratched.

I'm sure $4,000 is just the asking price. The seller won't respect you if you don't haggle.

She was too f*cked up and ignorant, possibly depressed, to get a lawyer. The kid could have had a new home and she could have a few dollars in her pocket. Now she's in jail and the state will take it, their vendors will profit and the kid will be gone. She will have nothing and have to get out of jail and make another, start all over again.
Abandonement with the intent to return? What f*cking bullsh*t.
