Cats already know how to surf. It explains the prevalence of kitty porn.

/Yes, low hanging fruit.

That's not surfing, it's boogie boarding.

I've seen dogs body surfing at the beach. They paddle out and wait for the waves to carry them back to shore. And yes, they do look back to see when a wave is coming.

(from a 2011 holiday card photoshoot) I don't take this cat to the water, but he gets pretty darn close.

Dakota will practically break her hip trying to get into a (small/large) body of water. Watched her climb up the ladder to get into an above-ground pool.

Someone else's pool. Down the street.

/embarrassed when noticed that pool owner was watching through the window..he did not have a look of amusement

i don't normally do this but i'll make an exception...

"Dogs who fear or dislike either are almost impossible to train to surf, so you won't find those dogs at these types of competitions."

i feel stupider for reading this, really, brain cells died. the whole article was an exercise in poorly written stupidity. and to make matters worse the department of redundancy department got involved.

fark you have failed me and the community with this greenlighted piece of dog poop.

Fido don't surf!

Unless the dog gets on the board and starts surfing on its own then, no, they do not love it. Some dogs will do just that but it's rare. Training/forcing dogs to become shark bait is just evil.

Studies have been done, yes. Dogs tend to be rheotaxic to the point where they enjoy many kinds of supermotion, which is why so many of them love riding in the car. To them, apparently, it's like they're flying!

This is part of why dogs like running around, jumping, etc, so much. It's not just to please humans. Dogs are wired that way.

So a dog that seems to like surfing probably does like surfing. Some dogs like skateboarding. Some dogs really, really like skydiving. There are other animals with similar tendencies, including otters, crows, and dolphins. Not to mention humans, by and large.

Cats are very strict about control issues. Cats generally don't like riding in the car because they don't trust your driving. If you could let Toonces drive, different story, maybe, although a cat would want an instinctive interface.

Naturally, there are individual cats and dogs that are exceptions to these generalizations.

Growing up, our family dog surfed. It seemed pretty much an instinct to her.

I would have liked to have been around during that period when humans and dogs co-evolved. There must have been some good times.

I knew a windsurfing cat in Evanston, IL in the 1990s--cat was named Gybe (real sweet main coon cat) and belonged to the guy who owned the windsurfing shop. They'd go windsurf on Lake Michigan and the cat would swim in when bored with it all. Lost track of them when Warren moved to California, but a totally awesome cat.

Cats don't generally like riding in the car because they associate it with going to the vet or other unpleasant experiences. Most people don't take their cats with them when running errands or on road trips.
