Thanks a lot FARTBONGO!

FTA: toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) said it will transfer its Yaris compact car production for North America to France from Japan in May next year, marking the first time the company will export cars from Europe to that market.

I stand by my proclamation.

Port costs are probably cheaper at some of the East/Gulf Coast ports than they are out west. Kia isn't shipping anything into Jacksonville.

They should make the Yaris in Greece instead, save on lubricant. (oh wait)

expect more of this.

Honda loses money on every car that is made in Japan and sold in North America....the Acura TSX, Fit, CRZ, Insight, etc.

I wonder how long until Honda offshores production of these models or kills them off.

Who knew that abandoning nuclear energy would have real consequences?

New Zealand has about 4 million people, there's three times that many in Tokyo alone...

Plus, don't they have a ton of hydroelectric power plants? No reason to bother with the headache of running nuclear plants if you've got other options.

I'm reminded of Germany. People around here make such a big deal about how Germany is shutting down their nuclear plants and putting the emphasis on solar power (despite being in, y'know, Germany), and how we should do the same here in France. But nobody ever seems to mention how the Germans generate half of their electricity by burning all that lovely brown coal they're sitting on, and are building another 25 coal-fired power plants to pick up the slack when the nukes all go cold in 2022. Or about all of the smoke drifting eastward, because fark Poland. I'm pretty sure they're only investing in solar power so they can sell it to folks in places like Spain and the Middle East later on, which really isn't a bad idea all told.

They knew what they were getting into when they decided to shut down the nuke plants. Now they just have to deal with the ramifications of 50% more expensive energy (just a guess). Low profit margin ventures before the rise in power costs become unsustainable and have to be moved or outright axed.

They can make it wherever they want. It still drives like a glorified lawn mower. Far and away the worst subcompact on the market.

"Yaris" - noun - a stupid name for a car.

Duh, everyone knows you can rebuild an ENTIRE COUNTRY'S energy infrastructure nearly from the ground up in less than a year. Da' Japanese are just slackin'.

Don't they still manufacture a few models somewhere in Canada? I had a 94 Civic that was made there.

I drive a yaris. It's a lame little car but it was 10,000 new and I spend like 50 bucks a month on gas.
