Lumber has a million uses.

studebaker hoch: I learned in college that tipping a soda machine will produce a can of soda, but that the machine was so heavy that two guys could barely manage it.

Not worth the effort or risk of being crushed and then fizzed to death.

/today I think they're made so that trick no longer works.

Most machines today have "tilt alarms" which go off it the machine is angled to a certain degree.

Although, this is mainly to scare would-be petty criminals, as every year a not insignificant amount of people (mostly college students) are killed when the 900+ lb machine tips and crushes them during their attempts to obtain cool, free refreshment.

falcontwin: So the police, fire department, whatever other emergency services people didn't think to call the number on the side of the machine and get someone with a key to come out and open it?

I'm sure destoying it made for a more interesting story, but i reckon the owner would have come around to unlock it if they had been asked.

Having seen the way the machines open, that might not have worked. It would all depend on just how his hand/arm were jammed. There's usually at least one inner door as well, at least on soda machines.

wildcardjack: Current model Coca Cola machines are pretty good about single dispensing. But the non-Coca Cola machines in front of Wal-Marts tend to be low grade and susceptible to multiple presses. If you come across a non - Coca Cola machine just hit the button a bunch of times quickly.

I worked on a project with a major vending machine mfr (they build Pepsi machines). The engineers told me that every time they lose product they figure out how it was done and redesign the machine to prevent it. Then they test it with employees with long skinny arms, etc. Same with the cash box...there's no way, short of one of those metal cutting circular saws and an hour of your valuable time, that you are going to get to that cash box. It was very cool seeing the inside of the machine and having them explain the reasons for all the protective parts.

Kinda makes trying to get a free soda not worth the trouble...

Jest vote for rMoney and all problems will magically disappear. Not only will caffeine be illegal (death penalty for dealing) but the Angel Moroni will serve you up your non-caffeine soft drink on a plate of gold. If he hasn't misplaced it in the meantime.

/insert obligatory Little Moroni joke here.

This happened to a buddy in college. Not for several days, but he got stuck after snagging a couple cans.

While waiting for he fire department, the campus cops stood around teasing him. "Had to go for one more can, didn't ya?" "Had to get greedy."

Yeah, we never let him live that down.
