Its because its distant authority; people always resent distant authority, no matter how benign. They always respect
authority that is percieved as closer to them, both physically and socially.

There is lot of similarity to the Tea Party's irrational hatred of 'big government', actually.

I think it is mostly because conservatives in the Bible Belt believe that the nations of the world working together for the common good is basically leads to the Antichrist taking over the world. Of course, if those Christans had any faith they would welcome the End Times because they would either get Raptured or they would get to see Jesus come back.

The world would be such a better place if they'd never put Revelations in the Bible...

I'm not sure why this is a problem,. The UN is a forum for the nations of the world to come together. It's not a place for those countries who think they are they awesomesauce to dictate to those they think suck poop.

Which is why the Bush administration unsuccessfully tried to get the approval of the UN Security Council for its invasion of Iraq.

Bush's desperate stab at putting a seal of legitimacy on his war doesn't confer any actual power on the UN.

World wide government has what to do with the ICC?

A world court like the ICC is no different than the WTO resolving disputes between nations and multinational corporations. Is the WTO trying to take over the world

The ICC is legally independent and not under "control" by the UN.

It also has no jurisdiction over the US, because we backed out of an initial intent to be part of the treaty, along with Israel and Sudan.

Isn't it great that the US is concerned that its soldiers may be held accountable for war crimes?

Many countries are on the Council, it helps push them to slowly change their old bad ways

If every country with human rights problems past and present weren't allowed on there would not be a country eligible.

Alabama lawmakers wasting time and resources legislating against an imaginary threat when they have real problems is the issue.
The voters in Alabama must be the most gullible suckers in the country.
