OK, somebody explain to me why the French left side on defense never seems to have a defender there. Spain has put several crosses from that area with wide open players.

I've been asking myself the same question. Spain is advancing mostly on center-left. Maybe the overload is to defend against the perceived greater threat on that side. I follow the game closely enough to know the teams' personnel.
