good_2_go: We better make the best of tonight's thread - Fark will be down next Saturday during the Kentucky race.

Hey, wait a minute! I think Drew and Bruton are in cahoots to sell more tickets to the race!!

I'm beginning to think Drew and Bruton--ESPECIALLY Bruton--are in cahoots to keep my arse going to NASCAR races :D Assuming the SO's health cooperates in time, that is...(SO is ill. Should be well enough to travel by race day, but we'll see.)

(My side of the family would go to Bristol--right about the time that my mother the Marguerite Perrin clone died and the folks decided to go to two tickets per seasonal purchase rather than four, my in-laws get Kentucky Speedway tickets and start seriously discussing season tickets as a "family bonding" adventure. It didn't hurt that Kentucky Speedway is practically giving away tickets to folks who bought last year as a "mea culpa, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COME BACK WE PROMISE THE TRAFFIC WON'T BE SUCK A FUSTERCLUCK THIS YEAR" sort of thing. And yes, the in-laws are sort of newbie-ish to the whole "track experience" thing--the first Quaker State 400 was literally their FIRST NASCAR race and even with the horrible traffic they liked it enough to try again. This year I get to introduce them to Fun With Spotter Comms Via Scanner. :D)

(In my case--SO's health willing, of course, let's all rub the idol and wish him the best--this will be the second time I've been at Kentucky Speedway...the first being when the track held its very first Series-Now-Known-As-Nationwide-Series race such a very long time ago :D Still have a bit of a sad that Indy cars aren't running there anymore, but it's not like I can't actually DRIVE to the Indy 500 one of these years (yes, on my list of Things To Do Before I Am Dead).)

Since Fark will be down and apparently this IS a plot between Bruton and Drew, anyone up for an impromptu Fark get-together at the race? :D

good_2_go: DanZero: They were considering them to replace the China race right? But they turned it down. Any word on what place they chose to replace it yet?

I saw a tweet today that Road America was willing to host it, IndyCar was willing to go there, they had an agreed-upon date, but they were several hundred thousand dollars apart on the sanction fee.

*nods* At any rate, I hope they DO get it settled soon--otherwise, as another Farker noted, they'll probably be looking at new sponsorship next year.

(And I'd normally pull for Kentucky Speedway because HAY IT'S JUST AN HOUR UP THE ROAD AND THEY HAVE DONE INDY BEFORE but I know there's honestly not a hope in hell of that--they FINALLY got their Cup date and hence are now Too Good For Indy. Ah well. I have that one two-and-a-half-miler an hour and a half up the interstate in Goddamn Indiana to go to if I want to catch an Indy race :D)

That guy has diabetes? Wild. I hadn't heard!

Seriously, though ... where was his Indycar 36 episode filmed? I hope it was Texas, because I really want to know if he was high when he blamed the guy 100 yards in front of him for putting him into the wall. Charlie's generally a nice dude, but that was a douche move.

Rumor in the paddock is 9:30-ish PM CDT. Make some coffee or something.

There are times that I SERIOUSLY think car races--particularly Indy races and especially anticipated races in other series--are the modern equivalent of the old rain dances that certain First Nations would perform. If I weren't an apatheist, I'd swear the sky gods must be saying:

"Oh look, they're about to run around really fast! They must obviously be in need of rain! *goosh*"

At least it SEEMS like it at times :D

/at BMS this got to the point I took the habit of carrying an extra-thin poncho to the track Just In Case
//still remember when a spring race there had practice delayed due to snow squall, so Rain Races aren't the weirdest thing I've seen
///if I ever get asked by some Earth Mother Hippie to perform a rain dance (yes, this has happened once, swear to the Thunders) I'm going to seriously suggest that the equivalent among us civilised First Nations folks IS a car race in a major series

This is no exaggeration -- we worked from IMS for three weeks during May and never got rained on once. Aside from that, which is highly unusual on its own, I have literally been rained on at every race track I've been to this season. Races, open tests, private tests ... every single one. This shiat's getting old.

Jeeze, I doubt I'll stay awake for the green, let alone the checkered.

Cars are headed out to grid, 9:30 CDT green flag.

I suppose that means it's time for me to wander out to pitlane and find something constructive to do for a few hours.

Yeah, it was Texas. That was the one where announcers called BS, my own jerk ass called BS in thread, and apparently DanZero made a FlexPen joke right afterwards.

Ah yes, here it is

Jensaarai: Kimball gets the first honors for shiat talking Viso in an interview this year, that I've noticed. "He's completely unpredictable."

Dude, you *did* spin out by yourself.

Me: Look out, next he might blame his FlexPen (TM)

Iowa needs rain so badly, they just entered in talks with Randy Bernard to add another race this year at the track.

Bernard set up expectations for a 15 race season. Says that the final negotiations are between Road America and Michigan International.

NBC Sports really can't handle an hour of pre-race. An hour 30 just makes the ridiculousness more obvious.

But Iowa, I'll stick it out.

They were having a calm discussion about the series. Talking about the tracks and the future of it. Basically how before the split they rivaled F1 but now they are struggling.

If Brian Barnhardt were still in charge, we'd already be complaining about the inevitable caution due to a half-dried track and posting Will Power pics.

It would also be nice if Sato could finish this race. He obviously has a lot of talent, but he's either has horrendous luck or some terribly decision making skills.

Not disagreeing, just wish that they only planned a 30 minute pre-race show.

Sato's talent is directly proportional to the distance between himself and the wall

At least this season, and that's a damn shame.

Over/under on him meeting the wall tonight?

The former tends to follow from the later.

I think Sato was just born 30 years too late. He's incredible at overdriving the car, he's absolutely masterful past the limit. Which is why he did so well at junior formula, where you can do that. But the grooved-tire era F1 cars had zero tolerance for that. The DW12 seems to be a bit finicky past the limit too...there's a bit of a fuzzy edge, but when they go, they go pretty quick.
