Looks like one of the ingredients in those fireworks snake pellets.

I think there are STILL black marks on the driveway from 10 years ago.

Every aspect of that demonstration is capable of killing you, including the snake itself. Be VERY careful.

The Pharaoh's Serpent was the original snake. They started using safer ingredients after kids were eating the snake and dying.

Yeah, when I saw the video, I was quite underwhelmed...especially after lighting up numerous Pharaoh's Serpents from 30+ years ago. Those were usually the last things we set off after we ran out of all the fun(translation: dangerous) fireworks.

I wonder what the final chemical composition of the snake is... couldn't find it in Wikipedia...

Snake burns on the sidewalk were as much a part of childhood in the US as lite-brite pegs getting lost in the shag carpet.

No one will be seated during the gripping minute-long Spooning The Stuff Into The Terrarium scene. I think the live coda of "Free Bird" was shorter than this.

Joking aside, that is one freakish reaction all right. Even the noise is creepy.

I don't take a religious view. I like to think of it was natural selection.

Came to say, snakes and sparklers are the good stuff.

That was... Lovecraftian... :)

I was talking with a friend about a book they had in my junior high... No way in heck they'd publish that nowadays. It was called "Science Magic" and had all sorts of stuff involving toxic stuff like mercury or highly reactive stuff like 80% hydrogen peroxide. You know... The fun stuff!

Anyway, one of the recipes was for ash snakes. Older farkers will know what I'm talking about. Little asprin-sized tablets that made twisty ash trails. Except this book didn't fark around, they described making cones the size of your fist to make ash friggin' anacondas.

Really wish I could find a copy of that book.

The 4-siders are the most painful, to be sure. But the 20's are big enough to take you down. My brother had a 30-sider; we called it the 'golf ball'.
