the biggest redneck here: Jensaarai: styckx: Knowing Dana enough.. I bet he is FUMING after that performance.. He expects nothing but 100% from his main eventers and not an asshole running away for 5 rounds.

And yet Carlos Condit is interim WW champ. Clay tried the same gameplan, but failed in his execution.

Hopefully Clay will go back to mad-dogging it now that his title dreams have been crushed once again.

Puhhhhleeeeze. No group of fans is more ignorant and pathetic than Diaz nuthuggers. Seriously, you people are pathetic.

/fu*k being nice all the time

I hate the Diaz bros, was rooting for Condit, and even think he got the win there. However, if you can't see the parrallels between Guida's gameplan and Condit's, with the admission that Guida failed to properly execute it, then you're deluding yourself. Winning a UFC title in certain divisions is not about 100% bringing the attack, it's about circling away, out pointing your opponent, but also hitting them hard enough to keep them at bay and stuffing their takedowns.

It's a valid strategy within the rules, but let's not pretend everyone frustrated by it is a "Diaz nuthugger" or that it means a guy trying to execute that strategy is putting his full effort into trying to get a stoppage.

Guida tried to play that game and failed. I fully expect to see him back to his old self in his next fight or two.

Thanks. I was back and forth with the post-fight show on FX. Interesting aside: Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith is fighting on a local card about 10 miles from my house at an Indian Casino tomorrow night. Unfortunately, my brother has a big speaking engagement in the Bay area tomorrow evening and I told him I'd go.

Unfortunately hands of steel has a chin of glass anymore. He was entertaining for a while. His first Cung Lee fight was fun.

Ya; his last few fights have been sad, including the second Cung Le fight. Actually, he takes a lot of punishment in all his fights. Can be exciting, but probably not a good long-term strategy for the career.

He made his career getting whacked in the face and having lucky comebacks. That shiat wears you out. Look at Wanderlei Silva, he seems to take less and less to get put out every fight.

So much this.

I hope the ref giving a warning for running away from your opponent will become a new trend in the UFC.

The only other time I remember seeing that is Houston Alexander vs. Kimbo Slice. I don't recall seeing Houston Alexander since then.

Wasn't Anderson Silva warned or carded in his Demian Maia fight, for running and not engaging?

I'm curious to see whether I remembered it accurately. Did he actually get warned or was it just a horribly blatant retreat that was greeted by news. I'm picturing Herb Dean warning him.

Possibly. I don't think I saw that fight. Wasn't that the one that was in Dubai or somewhere, that was on in the early afternoon? I think it was also the card when Edgar won the title, which I believe is the reason he never developed the drawing power of other title holders.

He might as well've brought a bicycle into the cage. It was pretty farking bad. He was literally running several times. Literally.

I like Guida, but farking Greg Jackson needs to be punted from the sport. Dana should treat Jackson like he did Golden Glory and ban any fighter that is affiliated with that camp from fighting. No worries, they would still be in the UFC. They would just ditch Jackson and go to an actual fight camp, hopefully. With my luck as a fan, they would all just star training with Jon Fitch.

Oh ya... I do seem to recall him turning his back and running...haha.

Your plan is ballsy, but I like it. The thing is, it's hard to fault guys who win, GSP for example. It's a fine line, I guess, between fighting smart and fighting boring/running. Dana's done ballsier things, but I worry about how his health is going to affect him, the UFC, and MMA.

From Wiki: In the fifth round, Silva's lack of action prompted referee Dan Miragliotta to warn Silva for his conduct.

Yeah, it was the Dubai fight. It was right after some mystery middle eastern investor bought ten percent of the company, so they had a fight over there, and then Anderson went on to completely embarrass the UFC. Dana said he wanted to fire him, but was overridden by the Fertittas.

Oh he has always been entertaining, until tonight. Tonight was backpedaling and running away, it was tiring for the viewers. It was the same unpredictable hop-around jackrabbit Guida, but he was stuck in reverse tonight.

I don't know but that was the Anderson Silva fight that turned me off on him too. But in that fight Anderson was in control. He was just toying with Maia. Like a cat and a mouse in the same cage, killing him softly, with his paws ♫

Well that was a huge disappointment. I actually fast forwarded through part of a Clay Guida fight.

I tried to pick some underdogs tonight and (mostly) failed miserably. I'm saving my good picks for tomorrow night, when I can watch live and take part in the thread :-)

Going to go watch the rest of the fights ( I saw a BIG blood stain!). See everyone tomorrow.

Fight Metric from tonight's main event

The striking was very close, 2 rounds each with one virtually even. Maynard had a few more strikes overall and a higher percentage, won the takedowns 1-0, but with way more attempts. I think he won the fight on "aggression."

No, I don't see any parralels at all in consistently resetting in the middle of the ring and outstriking your opponent in a busy fight and arguably taking round four 10-8 with going full Caleb Starnes. They're not similar one tiny little bit.

Check the stats, Jackson fighters are better finishers than any of the other big camps. Did you like the Cub Swanson fight last night? When you have that many big names, you're going to get some duds. And those are the ones people remember.

Condit outstruck Diaz in a busy fight is what I was talking about. That comparison is Looney Tunes.

Guida got closer to Starnes than anyone since.

Sorry for the confusion.

Guida barely was outstruck by Maynard. I really think the difference is everyone (including me) expects Guida to fight a certain way, so the difference was EXTREMELY noticeable.

I can't think of a recent fight that was more disappointing. I couldn't wait to get home from work last night to watch it, expecting a great fight.

The UFC 147 card is lacking in known fighters and star power, but often these have the best fights. I don't know any of the undercard fighters.
