The crowd should be booing now.

They have no sense of timing.

NorCalLos: My breakdown of the main event:

Maynard: Great hands, lots of power, but only 2 KO/TKO victories, the most recent way back in 2007. Great wrestler, but no finishes via submission. Has experience fighting 5-rounders, but cardio can be an issue.

Guida: Good cardio, busy pace, mixes striking and wrestling well. Likes to scrap, but will probably resort to humping. Not a big finisher and is susceptible to subs, particularly rear-nekkids, but also arm-bars.

This fight is very likely to go five rounds, with Maynard winning early rounds and Guida later rounds. The winner will be determined by which round is the turning point (and judging, obviously).

Prediction: Maynard via split decision: 48-47, 49-46, 47-48

15 of Guida's 29 victories are by submission. 5 are by TKO or KO. Only 9 have gone to decision. He's lost three split decisions, and he's never been knocked out. 8 of Maynard's 10 fights have gone to decision. Who doesn't finish?

Guida has a better shot at this than you're giving him credit for.

Guida, rear naked choke, round 2.

I don't know where this rumor of Maynard having ko power came from, but I have yet to see evidence of it. He has what, 2 ko's in his career and one in the ufc? He doesn't have pillow hands, but he certainly isn't a lightweight Dan Henderson or Alistair Overeem. He's a wrestler, a very very good wrestler, who is good at avoiding damage.

It's pretty funny Travis Wiuff has to fight in the tournament to get a shot at a champion he already beat. Silly tournament format and non-title bout bs. The guys last fight is a loss to Wiuff. Blech.

I'm not going to get to watch anything till the card starts on FX, so this crosstalk with UFC/Bellator is confusing, heh.

CJ was getting eaten alive for an entire minute. You can't just let that go on. It wasn't going to explode his forehead but the Shaolin Face Blocking defense is not well respected under the unified ruleset.

Meh. They weren't really damaging shots, he was still trying to buck him off.

I agree. Having the champ fight (in his weight class) without the title on the line is lame. I like the tournament for someone to earn a title shot, but meanwhile have the champ defend his belt against guys who earned their shots by virtue of their records outside a tournament context. Tournament winner fights whoever is champ at the time.

What's he doing if he doesn't want the belt? Poirier did the same shiat, and look where that got him.

Uh. He is putting on entertaining fights and thinks he needed another fight before a title fight. Who cares? He is f*cking fun to watch.

Looks like it is going to be two rounds for Hioki. He's putting good pressure on him from on top, Lamas keeps playing the wrong side for half guard. If he can get those kicks back quick or use good setups, I think he could finish. Otherwise, he'll clearly lose.
