expobill: HaywoodJablonski: Any word on the chants/songs happening in the stadium? There must be some good ones

i hear background murmuring from somewhere, that sounds like a security com on the tele

I can hear our commentators are sharing a both with some Spanish commentators :/

Props to the Greeks for staying loud while being severely outnumbered due to the proximity of Gdansk to Germany.

I also find the blue and white Hamburg banner in the Greek section amusing. I'm guessing Greek immigrants... or just trying to irritate the Germans

Every goal now worth another $20 billion in bail out funds

Oh keeper...what were you doing...

2012-06-22 04:16:10 PM
Not having cable at the time, I watched the 2002 World Cup on Univision, so he'll always be "SANTA SANTA SANTA SANTA KLOSE!!" to me.

/also, Alemania

Also, is it me or Klose gives Germany much more movement and creativity? Gomez has been scoring but this seems like a good move.

Holy shiat as I'm typing that on my phone the guy scores!

Well it's all three changes made. Here's a good analysis by James Tyler of ESPN just before the game...

James Tyler: Klose = tall, better aerial presence. Schurrle = lots of pace. Reus = more technically gifted on the ball compared to Mueller.
James Tyler: Ergo, feels like horses for courses. If Greece packs the box, Low wants better ball skill around the area. Klose should hopefully test the CBs and open up space for Ozil and co to exploit.

No, you're 100% right. Gomez is a pure striker/poacher, and he's one of the best in the world. But he's just not that creative. Klose can create for himself a bit and he works much better with Ozil.

This game should have been over in the first half, but zee Germans finally pulled their heads out of their arses and decided to play.

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: How in the hell is Germany not up about 4-0 by now?

I guess we just had to wait 20 minutes or so.

This game was fun and interesting for about four minutes.

2012-06-22 04:21:42 PM
We've still got quite a bit of time. Germany could drop 6 at this rate.

Offsides on the first chance that lead to the rebound. Not that it matters. This game is done.

Way to nom on a cross Greek fan.

More sad Greek girls, pls.

Also, Gomez at 4-1? You don't have a 19 year old who hasn't played yet?

Exactly. Also it's not like they lose a whole lot of poaching and goal-scoring potential with Klose on the pitch, while gaining a ton of creativity and a bit more pace. That German team is STACKED.

2012-06-22 04:29:35 PM
And this is the Germany we expected (except for that tying goal)

2012-06-22 04:30:03 PM
Okay then, was a bit concerned at the Greek goal, but things are looking a lot more like I expected now :) This game looks rather over.

As for my dislike of Portugal, please chalk that up to overexposure to the fans. I lived for 13 years smack dab in the middle of the very Portuguese part of Toronto. The attitude was wearing. The noise was just too much. The stupidity on every Portugal (or Brazil) win was stupendous - people hooting horns, speeding the ricers around the streets, hanging out of car windows and generally being total dicks. I thoroughly expected somebody to Darwinate, but so far it hasn't happened.

/BTW what's up with the Greek keeper? I am listening on radio here at work and he sounds appalling!!

Evil Canadian: /BTW what's up with the Greek keeper? I am listening on radio here at work and he sounds appalling!!

He made a bad read on the 3rd goal, and he's had a bit of trouble controlling rebounds. You could argue that he got a hand on the Lamb goal, but there's no way a hand is going to stop that shot.

I think that was the first penalty scored all tournament?

Not sure about the penalty goal and whether or not that was the first, but I guess throwing Greece a bone won't hurt Germany any.

Not harsh enough. It's a really simple rule. Don't touch the ball with your hand or arms if you're not the keeper. Especially do not do so in the box, as it will result in a penalty. Should have booked him as well for preventing a clear goal scoring opportunity.

You and me both. I live in a heavily Portuguese area of TO, and my dislike of the team stems from their insufferable fans in the 'hood. Christ, after the team's first win in Euro 2012, you'd think that Portugual had already claimed the championship judging by the outpouring from the Azorean crowd. It's even worse during World Cup time, when the Portuguese claim Brazil as their own. Which other former colonial power does that?

Still, there is a tiny bit of sympathy for the Portuguese, as they come from a European backwater not known for anything historically significant. Their language sounds awful too - more like Slavic than a Romance language.

And Merkel straddles the ball and and waves her shirt in the air as the Germans celebrate around her!!!

Oh, I agree. I actually like the sound of the various Slavic languages, particularly Russian. That's how they are meant to sound. It's just that Portuguese, a Romance language, should not sound like any of them. French, Italian and Spanish are all beautiful to hear, and even Romanian, with a bit of Slavic influence, still sounds good (most like Italian). Portuguese, however, is grating to the ear.

On vacation with the girlie, checked on the game when it was 4-1. Checked one second later and it was 4-2. Girlfriend said I looked like I was pondering the deepest thought ever.

Seems like I missed a great match.

There's a big difference between trolling for laughs and trolling for anger.
