It's the whole crass consumerism and resource waste.

Nerf guns are a symbol of everything that is wrong with America:

It combines guns + plastic + man-child attitude + wasteful culture + bigger is better + commercialism

Our office has about ten of those in various desk drawers. We tried scaling up for a while, but it was harder to keep them under-wraps when the 'adults' were around. Plus more darts fired just means more time for the interns to collect them afterwards.

We haven't had a nerf riot in a while... Might be time to instigate one.

I hear that the bigger the gun the less useful it is. Takes more time to reload while your getting pumped full of darts.

Stick and weave, my friend.

I like the BuzzBee products better. I'm deadly with a TEK6, which I find is more accurate, and shoots farther, than the Nerf.

Buzz Bee is awesome for the shells, but for power I've found Nerf to generally be better. The new Elite guns are great. They use a direct plunger, which makes them shoot much farther. Still, I can't deny how great freaking breech-loading double-barreled Nerf shotguns and bolt-action rifles from Buzz Bee are.

In general this is definitely true.

I have a Raider (the pump-action drum fed one) that saw some good use, but it ended up having slightly less power over time than the Mavericks. They just seem to last longer and fire better. Plus reloading the drum is an 'after the action' activity. Definitely not an 'on the fly' kind of thing like sticking a dart into the Maverick.

For ease of reloading I have to say that the green-disc guns are amazing. Finding the discs after they've been shot in order to reload though....Notsomuch.

Keep an eye out for the Nerf Rampage. It's a Raider with much more power. Also, you can use regular magazines, not just drums.

That's because the Vortex guns are great inside, but you do not want to play with them outside. They have great accuracy and distance unless there's the slightest gust.

The Raider can accept regular magazines too, I don't see why you would want to though when it comes with a 30 round drum. I will say with the longer magazines it *looks* cool, but you can eat through them way too quickly for it to be worth it in my opinion other than as a reload option.

Oh I'm sure. I haven't taken ours outside yet, but inside our big problem is the discs ricocheting under things and being nowhere near where you expect them to be. My wife and I had a mini war around Christmas time and we're still finding them behind and under things in the house. All the darts we fired were found the day of though.

You should talk to the boffer larp crowds. I don't know what groups exist in your area, but you can get together with *hundreds* of people with foam maces, swords, etc.

Get a Vulcan if you can find it. It comes with a tripod so you can basically make your own gun emplacement.

OMFG!

I used to absolutely DESTROY in Nerf fights with that thing. Got banned along with balls and hard-tipped darts due to too many bruises/eye pokes.

I've been trying to find another one of those bows for ages now. The new one they have just isn't the same.

Just picked up the Rampage for a BBQ. Good power. 30 shots. Plus I got the backup drum package, 60 darts if I need. Not like I ever will.

Here you go

You won't get a complete, boxed one for less than $70. Also, you can modify them to shoot darts, not arrows, REALLY far.

2012-06-22 04:13:15 PM
Is there really some thriving game that uses these things? Like nerfball instead of paintball? Otherwise people seem to be putting a LOT of thought, effort, and modification, into these things that are just going to collect dust?

At least with the spring/air guns people take them and play paintball style war games with them. I think this sounds condescending but it's confusing me.

I'm stock piling nerf guns for when my currently 8-month-old son is old enough to play with them with me. Hoping for one every four months or so. 2 Vulcans so far. Yeah yeah, 2 is not a "stockpile"

That, and Hot Wheels cars for when he's 4. 1 a week. I would have loved to open a box full of 200 Hot wheels when I was a kid.

My collection. Skipped out on the Vortex line. Will pick up the Elites. 2 modified Vulcans to 18V and doubled chains, all Mavericks have had the air suppressors removed, and the NiteFinders have had a barrel replacement for a tighter plunger seal and air restrictors removed. Tried modifying the shotguns, but was a PITA, so I just wound up breaking them.

About 2,000 darts all together. Used to bring it up for the camp I helped run for color wars. Kids had a good time. Thinking about renting out the crate or something, as a side business.

That was deadly accurate - I got hit in the eye once by my brother's. Yes, our mother did chide us when he got it by saying you'll "shoot someone's eye out".

I wrecked him for aiming at my head. Pulled him into a Human Torture Rack.
