Antimatter: Nintendo sells the 3ds at a major loss you know. Odds are they were barely breaking even at $250 as well. That's why despite strong sales, so far the platform has cost them money.

3DS hardware was selling at a profit up until the price cut, and Nintendo president Iwata claims they'll be back to selling 3DS hardware at a profit by August. The exchange rate is what's really putting a dent in their financials.
