(TMZ)   Rodney King's friends say weed had nothing to do with his death because when it comes to smoking, he was a "professional." Can't we all get a bong?   (tmz.com ) divider line

Jon iz teh kewl: why would anyone want to smoke pot when you can just drink beer. for like the same effects minus paranoia, aggression, and kiddy fondling

I haven't touched cannabis since high school, however, I've been a lifelong drinker, and IMO, cannabis is a safer product than alcohol for a number of reasons.

1. Cannabis never incited aggression and violence the way alcohol can / does.
- I NEVER had the desire to use cannabis and get rowdy like with booze, more like, use cannabis and chill out / laugh / eat pizza. NONE of my friends or acquaintances using cannabis ever got violent either.

2. Unlike alcohol, I have never smoked "too much" cannabis.
- Cannabis never got me to the point where I was a staggering incoherent wreck the way alcohol can. When I used cannabis, it was much easier to recognize the "threshold" so to speak, without going beyond, and the intoxication subsides at a faster rate.

- Edibles were not common back in the day as they apparently are now though, so I can see folks eating "too much", but when smoked, it was easy to monitor your intake because the feedback was pretty much instantaneous.

3. Cannabis intoxication never had the physical impact that alcohol intoxication does.
- Never puked because of cannabis, never blacked out, never woke up in a pool of my own urine (thanks Jose Cuervo!), never had a hangover, never met a friend of a friend that said "You were that wasted dude we couldn't get out of the car that night...." because of cannabis.

People are going to party. People are going to use intoxicants. IMO, cannabis proved to be a far safer intoxicant to use than alcohol based on my personal use, and my experience as a doorman at a local bar while in college. Our society would be safer and less violent if cannabis was available to use as a legal alternative to alcohol.

YMMV

Ever since investigators were pictured removing a cannabis plant from King's home this week, there have been suspicions that weed may have contributed to his death ... or at least caused Rodney to exhibit some bizarre behavior on the night he died ... including loud crying spells and banging on the windows of his home.

Weed doesn't make people do things. Outside crave snacks. This is stupid.

I can see the cop issue. There is a mass amount of violence when it comes to the selling and distribution of pot.

Granted, the only reason there is mass violence surrounding marijuana is because the laws are stupid.

But that's not really the cops fault.

Funny thing about weed smokers, you take the dumbest one on the planet and when it comes to finding a way to smoke, he's a farking MacGyver.

Apple and a piece of foil.

If you only have foil you can twist up a bowl no apple needed.
/I read it on the internets.

knobmaker: But did you know that there is a strong body of evidence that pot is a less-harmful substitute for alcohol. Google "cannabis" and "alcoholism." Lots of alcoholics have stopped being drunks that way, and it appears Rodney tried to be one of them.

And by "tried", you mean consuming massive amounts of alchol in addition to smoking massive amounts of pot. The man was a worthless shiatstain, let's leave it at that.

Don't forget the awesome spousal abuse that often happens with booze, too! And the hangovers! Don't forget the super awesome hangovers! Oh, and the throwing up! That's pretty awesome too.

Why would anyone want to smoke weed when they can have all those awesome benefits from downing a bunch of shots.

i've been drinking 6 beers a day for like forever and i've never woke up with anything other than an awesome feeling. nor have i ever inflicted violence on my date (i've never even had one!)

You've convinced me. I'm switching over from pot to booze. It really sounds like I've got nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain.

No he wouldn't. The mortality rate for people driving who recently smoked (or were smoking it in the car) was second only to those who consumed alcohol.

I would say those people died from blunt force trauma not weed...

How about, no addiction, no hangover, cheaper buzz, very easy to control your level of inebriation.

And it's a much better buzz.

Wait....Aggression? Kiddy fondling? I don't think that was pot you were smoking.

Or did I get trolled.

I got trolled, didn't I.

Being the son of a retired cop, ive met quite a few of them that actually believe that pot is no different from any other illegal drug. They cant/wont believe that pot is different from heroin, pcp, crack, etc. Like I said. Ur wasting your time

Communist_Manifesto: Also, I'm pretty sure there is zero chance weed alone would cause this. It would have to be more of a cocktail of weed, and booze and probably some kind of pill cocktail. Or maybe he had some condition that caused him to just fall asleep and not wake up. I think the only thing we can be sure of is that it wasn't weed alone that "killed" him.

The synthetic cannabanoids, the K2s and Spice Derivatives, that are out there most certainly can cause psychosis and psychotic breaks, as well as altered mental status. Their original design was to study endocannabanoid receptors in experiments. It just so happens that it shares those receptors with the same group of receptors involved in schitzophrenia and paranoid behavior.

Millennium: Are the toxicology reports even out yet?

umm... he's a professional cannabis user. The tox report will show that he had incredibly high concentrations of the active substances in his system, that could have been there even if his last bowl was 2 weeks prior to his death.

Tox reports prove very little when it comes to causation.

Exemplary punnage, Master Subby.

I hope the toxicology will reveal he died of three seemingly unrelated causes like Whitney Houston. In fact, that's what I'm going to tell the guys at the bar tonight.

ME: Did you hear Rodney King died of a combination of marijuana, lyme disease, and restless leg syndrome?

Well I don't know how pot could have caused his death. I have been assured repeatedly by Fark that pot is absolutely harmless. Whatever could the headline be implying?
