This is way too long overdue. It's such a basic feature that I'm almost embarassed over the people very excited over it.

I do find it interesting that the original post will be kept, so this feature really won't be able to help you if you if you say something really nasty.

You already can do that. You copy the content and delete the post. Then you add back the post and paste/modify content. No biggie.

I'll be honest, it's pretty bad (relatively, it's just Facebook after all) when someone deletes anything that challenges their point of view and only leaves the stuff that reinforces the walls of their echo chamber.

I don't visit Fbook often, but my posts always have an Edit button. Always have had an Edit button, as far as I know. I edit a large percentage of things I post, because I'm annoyed even by my own comments, but usually I edit them before anyone else replies. It'd be kind of dickish to make a substantial change afterward.

I've never looked over anyone's shoulder while they were using Fbook, so I didn't realize that (apparently) this isn't the rule. Can't be just me, though.

I always assumed those Stupid Stuff People Posted On Fbook things were either from people too stupid to edit or were screenshot before they edited them.

Never thought of it that way. I just post articles sometimes for friends and family, and usually alter the link text/descriptions. If I make a typo, I just delete it and do it again. I don't really worry about "likes". If the info is worth posting, someone will like it in their head.
