The all-metal-all-the-time Metal Men, or the later 'human secret identities' Metal Men? Tin and Lead were folk singers, Gold was a Wall Street type, Mercury was a temperamental artist complete with Van Dyke beard, Platinum was a hot young starlet...

Not that it matters much. This is truly a terrible idea for a movie.

I barely know who this team is.

As long as WB and DC Entertainment have something to do with it, the movie is going to be turned into a created by committee pile of shiat that leaves no one happy, and bombs at the box office.

See: every DC Comics movie in the last 15 years not about Batman.

The one good thing about this movie is that it's getting DC to release Volume 2 of the Metal Men Archives next year.

/DC sucks at new comics, but they're at least getting back to reprinting old comics again.

Strangely, that was my first guess.

ROBOTS. Not cyborgs. ROBOTS. (Not counting their "human" years, that is.)

There is full on nerd rage about this over at Topless Robot.

Sigh.

You're doing it again, DC.

Anyone who isn't happy about this has no love in their responsometers.

I used to love these guys. Is it going to be all cgi/animated? or are they doing live action?

I have no doubt it will be so heavily CG'ed it might as well be animated.

Platinum boobies.
I would say that Scarlet should play her, but Scarlet's acting is more wooden.

2012-06-22 10:10:31 AM
With Sonnenfeld attached, I figure he'd be getting a "quirky" DC team with his experience with The Tick and all. No way he'd be doing Justice League or Teen Titans and something like Suicide Squad seems unlikely unless DC got their shiat together like Marvel. Doom Patrol was my first choice, while Metal Men was my second.

So, in your face, subby.

Huh I thought Doom Patrol as well.

Me too.

From the second book:
"Super Model? Am I supposed to fight evil models?"

Amalgam was the first time in a long time either company published Fun-to-read books.

You just pegged one of my favorite lines from that book. I think that series of books were my favorite in years, and still has a place in my "read once a year" shelf.

I'd be good with those, and throw Dr. Strangefate into that list as well.

I'll second this. I would have also guessed Challengers of the Unknown or the Blackhawks before Metal Men

Strangefate was ridiculously badass. Xavier + Strange + Fate? That's a whole lot of reality warping power, right there.

If they do this as live action with costumes and no CGI, I'll watch. Or if they go old-style 2D animation. Otherwise, what's the point?

Since that time, I've often wondered what's ABOVE an Omega-level mutant (being more a Marvel guy than DC)... I'd imagine he'd be in the same class as Galactus/Eternity/etc.

I was hoping it would be the Teen Titans. I honestly believe that could be a fun movie. Kinda like The Avengers mixed with John Hughes. If you think about it, the five characters featured in the cartoon practically match the characters in The Breakfast Club. And like The Avengers, the characters play well off each other. As long as it doesn't get too goofy like the cartoon did at times, it could be a good mixture of humor and action. Not to mention that if they get Ron Perlman to reprise his role as Slade, it would be hella cool.

Probably. I would guess around the same level as Champion, Gardner and Collector. Maybe not full on Celestial, but close to the Elders of the Universe.

Or like Bloody William said; pretty damned close to Onslaught levels of power, but I would give the edge to Strangefate.

Wow, can't believe I forgot about Onslaught., tho I agree on giving the edge to Strangefate, mainly because of the magic factor.

Dr. Doom + Doomsday. Holy shiat!! The universe better surrender as the two baddest stubborn mofos have combined.

Yup. Magneto, while an Alpha or Omega class mutant himself, is still the weakest link in the Onslaught amalgam.

Really powerful mutant: Franklin Richards

Wow... I'm so underwhelmed. It sounds like this got greenlit when some exec decided he wasn't going to assess the potential of all the pitches he hears, merely count how many VFX shots will be required and go with the highest number.

Hamm as Gold?
Mercury might be the most critical role.

Doesn't the marvel universe have a level beyond Omega on the scale already? Shift-Z or some such? Could have sworn with the metal removed from his body, Wolverine's healing factor went from Omega to that.

I think everyone is forgetting how awesome Grant Morrison's contribution to Will Magnus (Metal Men creator) was in 52. Sonnenfeld and he have worked together previously, so I'm optimistic.

Omega is the level generally refers to the highest attainable power level for human/humanoid characters. Scarlet Witch, Franklin Richards. Then the Heralds of Galactus, Godlings like Herc and Thor are one above that. Skyfathers, and various Avatars(IE Thanos), etc sit a level above that. Next level is the Elders of the Universe; Gardner, Collector, Grandmaster, Trader, Champion. Then you get into the Celestials, who were around at the creation of the Universe. After that, the anthromorphic personifications, Death, Lords Chaos and Order, Eternity, etc.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the hierarchy. Most characters fit in there when dealing with the cosmic level badasses.

The ending of Thorion would have left us a good opponent for Doctor Doomsday.
