The moon is a space ship? I know it's been a while since I've watched an episode of Space: 1999, but huh?

bhcompy: Expected two to be missing: Satellite of Love and Gunstar. Only one missing, so it's not completely awful, but fark you for missing the Gunstar.

Gunstar? Seriously, the Liberator from Blakes 7 beats that thing hands down.

Lets be fair here this is not as terrible as most i09 articles or lists. Of course you are going to have differences in opinion with the writer on some points it's not like there is a quantifiable property of awesome that can be measured here.

Also a lot of the recommendations being made here were never actually "on screen". I was glad to see the Normandy on there but I prefer the SR-2. The Defiant was bad ass but from the star trek universe I'd still go with the Enterprise 1701-D. The captains yacht, and separating the saucer section were cool as hell. It's really a shame they didn't have the special effects budget to actually separate the ship all that often the original plan was to do it for almost all combat situations.

It's not a STAR ship.

Some of the ones ON the list weren't too -- #17 and #21 at the very least.

Apparently I'm the only one to enjoy the spacecraft in Sunshine. I mean seriously, the ship goes into the farking sun and saves humanity. And you get to watch virtual waves to help you chill the fark out! What more does it need to do?

You win for the Ice Pirates and Battle Beyond the Stars references. Nell's an awesome ship. Feminine voice, attitude, and big knockers just to remind you that the ship is feminine.

PsyLord: The moon is a space ship? I know it's been a while since I've watched an episode of Space: 1999, but huh?

That was the central premise of the show. Moon Base Alpha was the headquarters of a nuclear waste disposal landfill complex. One of the landfills on the dark side exploded, hurling the Moon out of its orbit and into deep space, apparently guided by an omnipotent force. The Moon was a giant space ship, visiting various planets and phenomena each week.

Tapakip: ou get to watch virtual waves to help you chill the fark out!

That movie pissed me off simply because at the end when they were getting into the suns gravity well and time began to dilate the people were seeing everything in slow motion. Cue morbo "Relativity does not work that way!"

No, I don't think it necessarily belongs on that list - but I do have a special place in my heart for it since I got to work on it.

Awesome. Was definitely a cool looking ship, pity you had to go and rip it in half.

Good man. And a vote from me of course. Moya was a gorgeous design and they did such an exquisite job of making her feel alive without anthropomorphizing her.

She was robbed on this list, man. She and her son both.

Do I post an Elven Man-O-War or Warbird? Dark Elven Armada? Githyanki Void Cruiser? Neogi Deathspider? Beholder Hive Ship? I can't decide. Let me simply say that The Spelljammer herself frowns on these shenanigans.

Just the fact that it mentions Space 1999 but doesn't have the Eagle as a ship...

some_beer_drinker: a good starship is only as good as it's captain. of course, the captain is only as good as his writers.

and the "military" writing on DS9 was embarssingly bad, especially during the Dominion War arc. They really had commanders of fracking STARSHIPS barking orders about "breaking the enemy LINES"

would it have killed them to read a single volume on naval warfare that was written after the Napoleonic wars? Or maybe remember (As ST II so famously exploited) that Starships can also move along a "z:" axis?

Which has the distinction of being the only space ship design created for a SF show , which NASA then appraoched the creators and asked for persmission to Copy, JMS agreed, on the condition that they name the resulting ship "starfury"

It probably makes me bad to point out that the ?-Wing fighters were supposed to be named after the letters they resemble ...yet the corresponding symbols in Aurebesh would have the A-Wing named the X-Wing in the Star Wars universe, the X-Wing would be named the (maybe) S-Wing, the Y-Wing is the B-Wing, and Vader's TIE fighter could be the Imperial B-Wing...
