For hates sake I cut off your head a sh*t down your neck.

No, I'm sorry, the answer we were looking for was Reliant. Reliant.

No shiat. The Reliant was a heck of a lot better looking than the Enterprise or the Defiant.

Also, came for the USS Cygnus, leaving satisfied.

I've always loved the Omega class destroyers. Love the spinning section cribbed from the Leonov.

The Moon counts in this instance because the whole premise of that show was that it was knocked free of Earth and was traveling through the galaxy. That makes it close enough to a starship for our purposes here.

Millennium Falcon as #1? Seriously?

Name one starship more iconic in our culture. The only thing that might come close (if you don't include the rest of star wars) is The Enterprise from the original star trek.

Yes, inside jokes that even the die hardest of Trekkers don't get are HILARIOUS.

Ye...................no.

/minmei swallows

Coolest Feature: The sheer WTF wrongness of this giant floating space cube - suggesting Stalinist architecture gone cosmic and IKEA packaging gone dystopian - makes it one of the scariest visuals in the Trek universe.

I'd have to call BS on this one. Anyone who's ever taken high school geometry knows that (2-D) circles provide most area and (3-D) spheres provide most capacity. If they were really the Borg they wouldn't build a big CUBE.

It's an io9 article. What kind of quality were you expecting?

DD44Dostivei: ugh I'm getting another onset of post Mass Effect 3 depression...

I just pretend that Mass Effect 2 and its sequel Mass Effect 3 are just poorly written fan fiction (which, mind you, had some amazing parts to them and amazing characters, but overall terrible narrative and possibly the worst ending to a science fiction story ever), and I futilely waiting for the day when a true sequel to Mass Effect 1 is released. Seriously, ME2 and 3 barely feel like the same universe as ME1 much less logically following it.

But I digress.

I like the Normandy in either version well enough, except for one thing. This is a ship that does not show up on sensors when stealthed, but is still visible if someone takes a look out the window. So, why the fark was it painted glossy WHITE?? A ship like that should be as flat black as possible. Then, the greatest risk of detection is from it occulting stars, rather than reflecting any available light around.

What bothers me most about that list is, if they were going to choose an odd number like 23, why not just expand the list to 25, and add a couple other cool ships? Clearly there were plenty to choose from. Unfortunately, I suspect that the author just did a GIS for "Cool Spaceships", and pick ones they liked, in addition to the few they probably knew already (The Enterprise, the Star Wars ships, etc).

I'm not going to delve into a geek rant about what they missed or any of that, and these lists are made to generate comment on what isn't on them just as much for what is, but suffice to say they had some really odd choices on that thing. And, in a few cases, a really embarrassing lack of basic research, like using pictures of the wrong ship.

And I don't understand why #1 is a problem. It is interchangeable with #2 for the most iconic space vessel in our culture.

Tellingthem: how about this one.
[www.war-ofthe-worlds.co.uk image 400x314]

Not really a starship. Not capable of interplanetary/stellar flight. They came prepackaged in the cylinders that were the starships.
