Let's make history!
Go thunder!
Just say no to buying championships.

The answer to #3 is yes.

I'm lighting my cigar now. Maybe that will help the Thunder. My dog wants nothing to do with Lebron doll I made the other night.

/I hope most of Miami burns to the ground tonight if they win.

Ok the buying championship thing needs to be explained to me, I've seen that mentioned in a couple other threads. The NBA has a salary cap. And last I checked, the Thunder are paying Durant and Westbrook max money. In what way are the Heat buying a championship that the Thunder aren't?

Did the Celtics buy their title when they traded for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett?

I have the sick feeling we're going to be watching Chirs Bosh, Dwayne Wade and Lebron James crowned champions tonight. Those dicks can ball but I hate their whinny entitlement. After every shot they miss they complain about being fouled. Funk those guys.

I'd really like to see Durant and LeBron go nuts in this game. Both score 60 and have it be a one possession game.

Disappointed to see Durant start on Chalmers. I want to see him step up and take on James.

Wade has to do the one footed fade away even when he is wide open.

I agree in theory but James has been getting everyone in foul trouble these playoffs. If Durant can't play 45 minutes this game OKC is done.

Probably because he said he was immature after losing Game 6 and did not mention his previous actions (like "I'm not a sore loser because I'm a winner").

Well crap, my fear of Heat in 5 is about ready to come to pass. I wonder how much I could have made right after game 5 of the Cs series when I said it was going to happen this way. It was a sick sad destiny just like A-Rod getting his first title.

I'd say it's between him, Lebron, and Ty Lawson. Lebron probably has the top speed, but a little less acceleration than the other two.

I'm the opposite, I'm expecting that post-win the douche will be so powerful that the women of the US will remain springtime fresh for an entire year. If one group has shown they aren't going to be humble, I think it is this one.

I was thinking Parker, especially, and Ginobili.

If a player flops, they should get a technical. With the prospect of getting thrown out of the game on the 2nd one, I'd bet that shuts that shiat down pretty quick, especially if the refs call one within the first 10 seconds of tip-off.

SevenizGud: roflmaonow: Westbrook dunk fail.

Attempted dunk is the only way to get the ball through the rim while you are being mugged and the refs don't call the foul.

It was a tough attempt, so lighten up.

It was still funny, and yes I am lightened up.

I was thinking Parker, especially, and Ginobili.

You're assuming that the refs can tell the difference. Most of the major stars are still being rewarded for flopping which is why it still happens.

Those last 4 games were dominant. Dirk could've taken a lesson on how to drive to the basket instead of shooing 20 foot fadeaway jumpers off one foot.

TheJoe03: Dirk is not a flopper

Dirk offensively fouls every time he touches it, usually multiple times. But if your pinky grazes his pinky on the shot while his hand is still on the ball it's a fall on you.

But it isn't flopping.

TheJoe03: Doogled: LOL @ Wade's 06 performance being called one of the all time great performances

But it was. The officials called the appropriate fouls on a defensively limited Mavs team that resort to hacking and grabbing. Wade converted those opportunities beautifully even with all of the punishment he was taking. I don't know if I've seen a better performance by either a player or a set of officials. It was world class.

One of Spoelstra's great adjustments. He used his mental powers to get the Thunder to cram their entire half court game to the top of the key and take away their superlative dribble drive game.

She should be given a NBA title ring. This is the first time in 3 years that there are no rumors about either LeBron's mom or girl having sex with a NBA player and he was great. Basically all he needed to do was get engaged and keep his mom away from Greg Oden to be the player we wanted him to be.

Ship him back to Cleveland, give them all the vibrators in town so he can get them a quick title and let him become the actual champ up there.

Yeah, I don't understand why they do that. Ostensibly, it's to reduce travel in the Finals, but it doesn't really make sense here: OKC-MIA = 1223 mi, MIA-BOS = 1263 mi. Sure, there's no time-zone issues with the latter, but it's technically longer.

The NHL does 2-2-1-1-1, and no one's ever had a problem with it. Hell even this year, with Newark-LAX = 2452 mi, they had more trouble working around a Radiohead back-to-back than travel issues.

2012-06-21 10:27:29 PM
2-2-1-1-1 vs 2-3-2 would be less of an issue if OKC hadn't airballed 37 straight free throws in game 3.

TheJoe03: TheManofPA: If the Heat pull this out, I demand the largest Wizard ever in his robe and wizard hat for predicting Heat over OKC in 5 after game 5 of the Heat-Cs series.

Indeed, I was meaning to tell you thought, you are the only one that had the balls to predict Heat in 5. Still hasn't happened yet but it probably will.

/hope I jinx you and the Heat.

When I did it, only Iamright was on the Heat side. I got slammed for stating that was my biggest fear by everyone stating how they were DONE. Just like ESPN, everyone will discuss how we knew it was Heat all along, but that was wizard.

And dangit TheJoe, I've been trying to bring this up for 3 straight games to jinx the Heat and it won't work. Iamright's disappearance is overriding me.

I've been a fan since the beginning of both of those shows, I can appreciate the humor they use to discuss their topics. Up until recently I watched First Take in the mornings, it corresponded with my morning schedule so I let it run in the background. I'll back the ATH, but sometimes they get rather annoying because again, they don't really admit when they are balls-wrong. The Heat-Cs example was Games 1/2 HEAT ARE UNSTOPPABLE, Games 3-5 Heat are done, LeBron is cooked, and then HEAT ARE ULTRA AMAZING with barely any references to what they had said previous unlike PTI which acknowledges when they overreact to 1 game and stay level-headed most of the time.

I can have First take on in the background but you are spot-on about the spoutfest. It's also Tebow-central for all your Tebow news that's fit to Tebow.

I don't like comparing my favorite athlete to a womanizing gambleholic that took a year off so the heat could die down after his loansharks killed his father. I also doubt that during LeBron's HoF speech he'll bring schoolmates from high school to chastise, neglect to mention his 2 man that he couldn't win without, talk shiat about a front office that protected him, and tell his kids they'll never live up to him. fark Jordan.

You're right. LeBron's stats are much better than Jordan's once you account for the fact that teams get about 10 less possessions per game now than when Jordan played.

If you've never read it, Sportsguy has him ranked rather approriately in his book. He is better than Pippen, and right now ranked 20th. I think one title moves him past Sir Charles and Malone easy and possibly Pettit at this exact moment. He needs more wins though to tackle: Julius Erving, Kobe Bryant, Elgin Baylor, and John Havlicek. If this holds, as much as I think something douchey is coming, he won this title with an alpha-dog style series.

In all seriousness, if this game continues to get out of hand like it is now, Scott Brooks could be looking for a new job next season. I've heard/read a lot of reporting out of there that the organization isn't totally sold that he's the guy to get them to the promised land.

OKC lost the finals when they gave their mascot Fisher minutes.

2012-06-21 11:03:20 PM
No real point in watching the rest of this. Congrats LeBron, Bosh, and Seattle. LeBron was CLUTCH in this playoffs and his reputation is no longer tarnished. I guess I can find solace in the fact that the Mavericks will always be the team that stopped Wade and LeBron. OKC might not be mature enough to get a title for few years.

2012-06-21 11:03:35 PM
That was a gutsy technical by Fisher on James. I'd retire with my millions long before I stepped in front of Lebron moving forward at that speed.

Schroedinger's Glory Hole: Same number of championships at his current age. 3 MVPs, makes players around him better but not through intimidation, will play longer, is a better athlete, passer, defender and person. Yeah, he will be GOAT.

Defender? Absolutely not.

Jordan made players around him better because of his play (and sometimes through intimidation).

LeBron is a better athlete, but he's not the kind of shooter/scorer Jordan was. He definitely does not have that killer instinct MJ had throughout his career, and did not immediately turn a horrible team into a playoff team by himself (as Jordan did). He's also, you know, lost a couple Finals (one time where he was part of the better team, and the biggest reason they lost is BECAUSE LeBron played under part).

Well I got tied up with work/family stuff, little depressing to jump in here now. It's too bad this is going to look like such a mismatch ~10 years from now, because the Thunder were right there until tonight, they just didn't have quite enough to get over the hump in these games.

OKC needs a quality scoring big. Maybe Ibaka turns into that kind of guy, maybe they could move a Harden package of some kind of one, don't know. But they better solve this problem soon, like next year, before these Westbrook and Durant years are wasted. Watching them out there, I'm not sure they would have beaten the Celtics either.

You have to give credit to Miami though, especially LeBron. He did in this series exactly what everyone knew he had to do: Stay aggressive, don't settle for jump shots, don't let yourself get taken out of stretches of games.

Yes I do. Rodman defended anyone larger than Pippen or Jordan after the first retirement. Pippen guarded anyone larger than Jordan before the retirement. Jordan was a phenomenal defender, who also got the benefit of more than a few no calls, but I don't even think he was the best defender on his team (Pippen).

I don't buy this at all. The Heat had no one to contain Garnett and OKC doesn't have that problem. Perkins might've actually been relevant in this series. Also, who guards Durant? I love Pierce but he wasn't good in that Heat series and I think Durant would've easily outplayed him.

There's a fun picture of James that is basically: He wants to play in the NBA, win a title, and be better than Mario Chalmers. One out of three ain't bad.

Yes he did. However it's pretty obvious that Westbrook wants to be top dog somewhere and Harden is a RFA after next season. They won't keep both and their cap situation gets fairly precarious after a few years.

Yeah Westbrook is there. The decision will come down to Harden and Ibaka, and I'm sure they'll take Ibaka. 23 years old with a developing offensive game and a guy whos led the league in blocks 2 years in a row. He'll also be cheaper than Harden as well.

I don't think I would use the word "exposed", but at the same time, he's not a max player/Top 10 at his position guy. Streaky shooter who can make a lot of hay drawing fouls on drives, but we're seeing that his game, at least right now, is very limited. Miami has been cutting off his drives effectively all series and he just keeps going back to that well.

Jordan worshippers are the assholes who always insist shiat was better in the good old days and every year separated from their delusion, the better it gets. LeBron plays in a more talented league and can defend every person in it. You are seeing the result of unselfish play before your eyes. Every criticism about him deferring will never be mentioned as this team continues to develop around him. The days of idolizing "killer instinct" are over. LeBron never let anything change him and it is finally paying off.

No, I didn't say he was a better defender. I said that that Jordan couldn't guard large men because they were much larger. Even if there had been 4s or 5s in the 90s for him to guard, he wouldn't have done it as well. James is a bigger, stronger version of Jordan minus the serious personality defects that made Jordan the greatest of all time. I remember Jordan squeezing the life out of the Glove in the finals. Jordan was better with smaller players and James is better with larger players. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why.

No clue, I just figure a team that misses out on Eric Gordon will make him their second priority as a guard. Indiana immediately comes to mind.

Harden is from LA and I'm a Lakers fan. I'd do Harden and Collison or Sefolosha for Pau Gasol if Harden signed longterm. I'd try to play him at the point with Kobe and move him to the 2 when Kobe retires. I don't know if Harden can play the point defensively though.

2012-06-21 11:32:02 PM

coolio mack: TheJoe03: coolio mack: I think Harden gets in the neighborhood of 5 years/60 million from another team.

Where do you think he'll go?

No clue, I just figure a team that misses out on Eric Gordon will make him their second priority as a guard. Indiana immediately comes to mind.

Harden is from LA and I'm a Lakers fan. I'd do Harden and Collison or Sefolosha for Pau Gasol if Harden signed longterm. I'd try to play him at the point with Kobe and move him to the 2 when Kobe retires. I don't know if Harden can play the point defensively though.

Chris Paul just got a boner, and doesn't know why.

4NSpy: redmid17: Mind of the North Star: fark Spoelstra. i could have coached the Heat to atlest the eastern conference semi finals

Surprisingly, Doc Rivers was a shiatty coach until he had 3 (maybe 4) hall of famers on his team.

/not surprising

I don't think Antoine Walker is making it to the Hall of Fame.

Unsurprisingly, someone didn't realize that Walker played all of 40 or so games for Rivers.

I dunno about that, I think he can win DPOY. He's only 27.

Maybe in the future. But not right now. Jordan led the league in steals 3 times. Lebron has some work to do.

2012-06-21 11:34:14 PM

TheJoe03: Neeek: It just wouldn't happen.

Never heard someone claim that Jordan in his prime would struggle in today's NBA. He would DOMINATE today's NBA, like James dominates it now, but even more so.

No, he wouldn't. The defenses now are much better than they were in his day.

That said, what I said was Jordan would never when DPOY in the league as it is now. Smaller players just plain don't get the award anymore.

If I know ESPN, we should be in for:
1) People start to recognize that "Okay, James is the best player in the NBA", let's appreciate his performance
2) The Heat are far better than everyone, we always knew this
3) THE HEAT ARE THE GREATEST TEAM EVER AND WILL WIN EVERYTHING FOR THE NEXT YEARS
4) LEBRON IS ALREADY BETTER THAN JORDAN AND EVERYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE DOESN'T KNOW BASKETBALL AT ALL

I believe this is about 2 total weeks of coverage, then we will go back to Tebow-Time, then when NBA starts again, we'll pick up at part 4. Basically we will barely get time to appreciate the series because he'll get overrated (even for one of the best players ever) before we can appreciate that he's moved from top 20 to a shot at top 15.

If I know this thread:
It'll be trolls trolling trolls trolling trolls in about 3 minutes gametime.

Let me put it like this: If Lebron James realizes how great this championship feels...and then appreciates what it really means...I'll probably stop hating him.

And I use the term "hating" pretty loosely, because I really don't care if he wins or not. It was just fun to watch him lose to my team. But he's beaten the Celtics two years in a row now.

IAmRight: Hey, the Cavs have about 10 seconds to win a championship before LeBron does. Can they do it?

Glad to see some OKC class.

Can I just say.... before the trolls & bandwagonners get here? I really like most of you guys & this has been fun. Also fark the Heat. I've hated them sine 2006, before LeBron came on. I am a Heat-hater hipster, so there.

Ok, going to shoot for my Chalmers headline.

So, this means Seattle gets the Sonics back now, right?

Kinda nice this was a blowout so the bench guys could get some playing time in the finals.

robsul82: You're never, ever, ever, ever, EVER going to be in a Heat game thread during said game again, are you? lol

Regular season doesn't matter and the early rounds of the playoffs don't matter...I'll have to test each series out like I did this one - show up for Game 1, if they lose, I'm out.

/what a great night except for the refs trying to keep OKC close in the first half and Harden flopping his way to the line because he couldn't buy a bucket
//it's okay, Thunder, y'all are a bunch of young bucks, you'll be there many times in the future

4NSpy: cisleysports: Without the headband LeBron looks like Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon.

Lebron is getting too old for this shiat

I've really enjoyed this season, and all the amazing basketball of the playoffs. These guys clearly have a lot of passion for the game and respect for each other.

I guess we can put the "THAT'S THE ONLY ARGUMENT I NEED, SHAWN" statement to bed. Lebron's just put up an amazing series.

redmid17: Yes. He had 5 championships as a coach and 1 as a player.

So seven, then? Because he'll get one for this one.
