jaylectricity: Bit'O'Gristle: Ok, i do know a little about law, but how can you charge the guy with incest..if the boy is adopted? I thought that you had to be a blood relative. How exactly does that work?

If you're "charging" somebody with something, it is in regards to the law.

The law says, the kid is his son. Before they filed the papers, it was not his son. Now it is, and if he's having sex with him, it's incest.

Incest is an invented term. When there were only 10-20 people on earth, EVERY sexual encounter was "incest," but nobody cared.

So.... that makes it OK? What?

there was never 20 people on the earth, let alone 10.
if it helps, think of stories that speak of a handful of humans as parables designed to teach mankind moral lessons.

cc_rider: iaazathot: I hope that smug asshole does us all a favor and offs if he is convicted.

This is why Sandusky wasn't allowed to take the stand.

Actually I think his demeanor in that interview with Bob Costas, and the fact that his son could have been called as a rebuttal witness is why his lawyer didn't want him to take the stand.

Didn't his lawyer fark a minor too?

fb-'s grown sperm: Lost_in_Oregon: Screw justice, what's a fair punishment for this guy? My favorite is true solitary confinement; no sensory contact with another human forever.

He's going to be in a restricted housing unit (AKA The Hole) for the duration of his stay with The Commonwealth for his own protection.

This is football. It's an "old boy" network.

The presedent is 15 years in solitary confinement for having sex with a family member.

relcec: there was never 20 people on the earth, let alone 10.

OK, so at one point there was zero humans on earth, and at another point there was more than zero humans on earth.

What was the number of humans on earth the moment there were more than zero?

cantsleep: Wonder why this is only coming now, after the testimony is over?

The adopted son will be a whole new charge if he somehow skates on this...hell, even if he doesn't. Texas wants a piece of Sandusky too. He isn't going to get away with all this.

2012-06-21 10:18:08 PM
shower_in_my_socks: mrmyxolodian: Could be to try him under a different set of charges?

Yep. Pretty sure they're saying they've got one of his son's in the wing ready to testify, and that they'll file those charges should he be acquitted in the current case. I don't think it would be considered double-jeopardy if it's a different victim and different set of crimes from the current trial.

It's not even close to double jeopardy, it's an entirely new charge altogether.

Just like the federal crimes and crimes in TX he hasn't yet been charged with. No risk for the prosecutions to just keep hammering away at all.

2012-06-21 10:18:19 PM
Ok.

This ticks me off.

The lawyer for him said the trial was like 'All my Children" (yes, really...you can check). Those frackers tried to character assassinate the victims, their families, and then the police officers who investigated this.

The defense probably knew about his adopted son, and therefore didn't put the guy on the stand knowing that if they did,m the prosecution could use the son in a rebuttal even though he wasn't on the original list of witnesses.

I have no sympathy for people like this ...person (and I use the word very lightly here).

They deserve the most painful death possible because
1) They are destroying lives. shiat like that you just don't get over, and these boys/men will need years of therapy most likely.
2) They are betraying the trust put in them by the community and these victims, and using this trust for perverse gains.

Honestly, sometimes I think the Chinese have it right in some respects: take em out and shoot em. Or, and this would be in my opinion a much better option, soak him in gasoline and light him on fire. Then bury him in some garbage dump and have his name stricken from the rolls of whatever honor he accumulated over the years.

Yes, I know this is a rant, but...these individuals deserve no pity whatsoever.

He didn't come forward until the jury was already in deliberation. The case is over at that point. If he would have came forward a little earlier they might have been able to bring him in as a surprise witness. It's rare for that to happen in real life, but considering this situation, I think the judge would have allowed it.

If you adopt a kid, under the law, that's your kid. It's about the position you hold in their life, not as much about the blood relationship in this case. You're not supposed to have sex with your kids, even if you did buy them second-hand. I believe that step-parents can be charged with incest as well.

I don't think there's any way he gets off. I will be a MUCH bigger shock than OJ if the jury comes back with a not guilty verdict. The best Jerry can hope for is a hung jury, and now that his adopted some has come forward, they prosecution would have even more ammo at the inevitable retrial. On top of that, there's probably a good chance that a lot of the character witnesses that testified on Jerry's behalf would decide not to support him once they learned that Jerry's own adopted son was alleging abuse as well. Either the current jury comes back with a guilty verdict, and Jerry goes away for life, or he gets lucky with a hung jury, and with the prospect of a retrial, with his adopted son now testifying against him, Jerry's lawyer convinces him to take a deal for 30 years, with the outside chance that he might still be alive at age 98.

that almost explains why it doesn't register with his lawyer how god damn creepy sandusky registers to normal people when he talks about boys and didn't have a problem putting him on nbc or the stand.

It kinda does. If you are arguing that somewhere between zero and >20 there were 20 people, then somewhere between zero and two there was one.

Not sure how you then make the leap to "so incest is okay" from there, but thankfully it's a non-issue because the foundation is completely flawed.

Okay, if you adopt a kid, that's *your* kid under the eyes of the law. If you hurt that kid, it won't matter if the kid was your genetic offspring or not. You're legally obligated to protect and care for it. That's why the soon yi thing seems ultra creepy in my book. That and she always looks miserable.

Darth_Lukecash: It's in the juries hands now. Ever since O.J., I have trusted them a little bit less.

All it takes is some dramatic shenanigans by the defense, and the Jury think "Oh Boy! Just like Matlock!"

The Cops testimony contradicting themselves, the tape with the cop talking to the victim becomes, "Well if they lied about that...what else did they lie about?"

It doesn't take much, especially since people are badmouthing the government and any officials.

In the jury's very token defense, apparently the prosecution BADLY mishandled the presentation of the DNA evidence and the jurors, being ignorant by design, thought that the, "could only be him or a farking CLONE," match was the, "could be one of 10 thousand different people," match.

Or so I'm told, I never paid that close attention to it.
