Always got a kick that there's a Flood street in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans.

Yep, it flooded all right.

Cleveland Heights has a street that meanders through town called Meadowbrook. Guess what it used to be? What happens when it rains hard?

Surprise! The name changes to BasementJunkFloatinginStreet.

I see the requisite Peter Gabriel and Sisters of Mercy references have been made. In lieu of these, be it known I'm making an official reference to "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin. Thank you and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Outside of a floodplain, it's nearly impossible to buy flood insurance. Without flood insurance, your regular insurance usually won't cover water damage.

/My basement was flooded with ~2 feet of water during hurricane Floyd.
//My insurance company accepted the claim for the $35 window that broke and let the water in, but I was responsible for everything else (furnace, water heater, walls/carpet, furniture, etc).
///I was dropped a few months later for being a "high risk client".

Insurance companies live to deny claims. Hurricanes fall under acts of god; most insurance policies have an "act of god" clause. It's similar in nature to volcano insurance; in that, they can deny claims because of an act of god.

/ am not an insurance salesperson; and did not stay at a holiday inn express last night; so that could be a little off.

// I have always agreed with my grandpa on things like this; if you're alive to worry about things after the fact, then it could have been a lot worse

This is like Lou Gehrig's parents naming him Lou Gehrig! If they had named him Bill Smith he might still be alive today. On the other hand, he might have died of Bill Smith disease.

I have a friend name Lou Gehrig and he's still alive. Do you think he might get Bill Smith's disease? I'll call him and see if his house is flooded.

And it washed away. So I built another one...

It's difficult for them to rise down, unless someone pokes a hole in the ocean floor.

Does the water spiral the wrong way? Like a whirlpool, and it never ends?
