Now he's talking about his own executive actions, plus prioritizing green cards for high tech workers, and allowing families to bring missing relatives here.

I wonder how long it will take for the right-wing frothers to notice his attempt at a pivot.

So instead of investing in education here, Romney is going to be giving the high-paying jobs to immigrants, all while biatching that the low-paying jobs are being taken by immigrants?

About what? Romney never dared utter anything close to this in the primaries, or even against McCain. He's trying to slowly edge towards the middle, imho.

True, they love to ignore things they don't want to hear, but they're very keen to pounce on their own at the slightest hint of "moderation".

That's only in the primaries. They're in lockstep mode now.

Much like his father. A journalist once threatened to make a key for his typewriter that would print on command "Romney later clarified" or something that like, since he was having to constantly walk back remarks. I'll try to find the quote when i get home.

I think you're right overall, but the Tea Partiers and Grover's minions still seem to be doing so only begrudgingly. At least so far, plenty of their surrogates have gone "off message", and in significant ways.

Besides, Romney can't control Adelson and the outside ads, which is a recipe for disaster for him.

I could be wrong, but I think this means that if you're a tech worker, Romney wants to give your job to an immigrant.

Just once. Once. One single time. I would like a reporter to ask Mitt Romney a question when he talks about repealing and replacing something. That question is "with what?"

If they say "a bipartisan comprehensive solution", as them what that entails.

Just reporting verbatim an empty, vacuous promise made by a politician is not journalism.

From what I understand, that's an easy way to ensure your news organization no longer has access to the Romney campaign, and for the journalist to lose their job as their outlet fires them to regain access to the Romney campaign.

The qualities that helped give Romney success as an automotive industry executive worked against him as a presidential candidate;[17] he had difficulty being articulate on any issue, often speaking at length and too forthrightly on a topic and then later correcting himself while maintaining he was not.[18][19][11] Reporter Jack Germond joked that he was going to add a single key on his typewriter that would print, "Romney later explained....

Mittens Rmoney, he may very well just be the right/wrong guy for the job then again perhaps not, maybe, maybe not.

at least he's clear on the cloudy issues that may or may not be important to the American public.

A very weak one. Which, strategically, is the only option he had at this point.

This was an example of brilliant gamesmanship by Axelrod and the Obama team, IMO.

Why would conservatives not like the idea of immigrants getting tech jobs? Isn't that just the free market at work? Best people for the job, etc?

"I will work with Republicans and Democrats to find a long-term solution. I will prioritize measures that strengthen legal immigration and make it easier," he said. "And I will address the problem of illegal immigration in a civil but resolute manner. We may not always agree, but when I make a promise to you, I will keep it."

little light on specifics...little bit.

Okay so he wants to make sure that the best paying jobs in the fastest growing industry are filled by foreigners who can be paid less than US workers and more or less treated as indentured servants by their company because if they change jobs or are fired they risk losing their green card

Yeah sounds like a Romneysolution all right. You can take the man out of Bain Capital, but you can't take the Bain Capital out of the man

Somebody CLEARLY failed Civics:

It works like this:

When Republican presidents sign executive orders, or even signing statements that say they will ignore the law they just signed, The are simply being strong and decisive leaders, exercising the Nigh-unlimited power fo the "unitary executive"

When Democratic Presidents do it, they are socialist usurpers showing their contempt for Congress, the Constitution, America and Pure White Womanhood

Why don't we just hire mercenaries and be done with it. Of course, we would have to hire them through a contractor so at least someone could make a bundle of money off the deal.

As an aside, this election looks like another choice of the lesser of two evils.

2012-06-21 04:47:54 PM
Why is Romney double downing on Kerry's losing strategy? It's almost as if the true powers that be make both parties dance like puppets to create a grand illusion of democracy while trying to placate the masses into a sytem skewed to keep the power in their hands. At least we got some new comedy writers for this years primaries, but they're obviously out of material and are just playing reruns.

"I will work with Republicans and Democrats to find a long-term solution. I will prioritize measures that strengthen legal immigration and make it easier,"

Didn't Obama already do this? It got 55 votes in the Senate, but Republicans STILL blocked it?

No, Obama didn't do it with an (R) next to his name. Nor was he white while attempting to do it. You see how that could be a problem.
